Bangladesh's Maiden Satellite ‘Bangabandhu-1’

Bangladesh is going great guns in launching its maiden satellite ‘Bangabandhu-1’ into the space, trying to catch up with the advances in the field of science and technology.

A proposal on this space-technology project was placed in a recent meeting of the ministers concerned.

Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) commissioner Mallik Sudhir Chandra detailed the advancement of the project to banglanews staff correspondents Monowarul Islam and Shariful Islam.

“We have no practical experience in launching a satellite so we are at a beginning stage,” Mallik Sudhir Chandra began.

“Planning, designing, expenditure calculation, place selection in the space--all these are under preparation,” he said.

Appointment of a consultant firm in this connection is underway, he added.

“Initially, we tried to find out local experts but failed, so we are now in the process of finding international experts,” said BTRC commissioner.

Sudhir Chandra said, “We have applied to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), a regulatory body of world telecommunications, for place in the space for the proposed satellite.”

The international consulting firm, once appointed, will coordinate negotiations with ITU, Shudhir informed.

He said, “Initially we applied for an honorary expert from ITU but got no response. Now we are thinking about getting a paid expert from the organisation.”

Calling an international tender in this connection is underway, informed Sudhir Chandra.[/QUOTE]

Heard about it last year I think. MB could you find that thread for info? And just curious what was Talibaba? Was it Indian owned?

Better idea from our government. Atleast no acquisition or requisition of agricultural lands.
But naming it on Bangabandu bad idea. Highcourt needs to come out with ruling that more than two national establishment/organisation/institute etc cannot be named after same person. Mujib already have had more than 5 after his name.

i searched before opening actually. dint find any! yes its kinda 3 month old news.
