Old pictures always give me the chills! Especially when they've got people in them. Forgive the ignorance, but do any of those buildings stand today? I'm guessing no for the Dhaka College one by what people have been saying. But why?

Dhaka will die if the traffic system is not revolutionized and half of the heavy business is not sparsely distributed towards surrounding suburbs.

as long as he bowls the way he has been in ODIs, i guess we're fine.

the guy's not really ripped, he just doesn't have fat on his body. The veins that you can see on his arms are because he probably has a fat percentage of less than 10%. If you measured his biceps, you'd probably find that the are really thin which incidentally gives one the impression that he's been working out. But overall, the guy's really thin and emaciated and has very little lean muscle. his body weight is probably much less than a man his height and age should be. In short, he's not healthy and is probably nutritionally deficient.

Incidentally, you're absolutely spot on about the villagers Navarene. Absolutely nothing has changed for them. a century of "development" has totally left them behind.

My Dad showed me these photos on his email and I laughed at them. Its just funny to see horse and carts and people walking around in "dhutis" :P

But I must say, what a beautiful life those people had. So much open space. its hard to think that Dhaka used to be like that.

Amazing finds. Thank you.

The educated and the normal (ripped) looks like twins. Look closely.

I've been a member of that group. There are also some fabulous pics of Dhanmondi and Dhaka in the 60's. Esrar Bhai rocks there.

Amazing thread, with awesome picture. Thanks so much, Nav.

I have long sought to acquire e-pics of Bengal - but never have been successful. There are so many to be gathered of lahore, karachi, calcutta, kashmir e.t.c but never did I find a collection depicting the eastern half of bengal.

There is a sense of calmness in all of them here - maybe because of so few people. And the well maintained lawns...the british were truly a class act.

Can we keep on finding more...maybe from other districts of BD as well, but pictures from no later than the 2nd decade of the 20th century?

Looking back again - truly, time did stay still you would by mistake guess, for over 2 centuries.
