Bangladesh 'Eve teasing' craze takes a terrible toll

This Sunday (13 June) has been designated "Eve Teasing Protection Day" by the education ministry in Bangladesh.

The announcement reflects increasing concern over the worrying number of girls and women who have recently committed suicide in the country to escape "Eve teasing", a euphemism for sexual harassment

These are just bland euphemism that masks blatant sexual harassment and stalking. The Daily Star rightly so has started to use the term "stalker" and not "eve teaser".

Eve teasing also includes physical sexual harassment. It is mentioned as a MINI RAPE. A lot of suicide committed for eveteasing. The offender doesn't have to suffer punishment as there are no express law has been provided in Bangladesh. The high court already ordered govt to enact law against it

Unspeakable! Horrible! This is a clear reflection of our moral decay, social decay over the past 2 dacades. Very sad and think what a savage of a society we are constantly nurturing, building and raising. Humanity, you make me vomit! We are a group that live like zombies. We have no-zero conscience, no accountability, no compassion, no empathy, nothing, zero! this is 2010 bro not 1942 . They have every rights in the world to wear whatever they feel like wearing.
I think this trend is due to lack of education, lack of job opportunites, no fear of God and most importantly lack of girlfriends. . Whatever the case it maybe, its just disgusting and sick...

i am not justifying eve teasing..its just now a days girls were so much revealing clothes that can some times go against them..thats just my opinion..if u r wearing Sh!t u should be expected to hear Sh!t...forgive me i am talking like a mollah but thats how i feel

Well our religion didnt give us men the right to look at them that way in the first place. The true veil lies in the man's eyes and mind.

Anyway, what you're saying can never justify violence, stalking or even insulting people just because what they wear gives someone a hard on. Eve-teasing or stalking are sugar coated words for "sexual harassment".

yes i am not denying that on not i am protecting the boys here...they are 100% guilty and should be punished..but i am only saying that there are other side of the stories too...dont only blame the boys...banglay akta probad ase "ak hate tali bajena"

the girls u r referring to are not the main victims.
I think more than 90% of the victims r from lower or middle class families who don't wear so called revealing clothes.
And as Lamisa said doesn't matter what they were these boys have no rights.

If you are talking about mini skirts (short enough to see underwear), and low cut tops where you can see most of the bosom, then you have a point.
