Fun interview!!! I have to give it to Shakib for being honest about the fact that he did not follow Bangladesh cricket matches regularly...

Nice interview. It could be more fun if Mash was there also.

i'm surprised no one mentioned the part that shakib did not even follow bd cricket and only watched pakistani cricket. i'm disappointed.

It was back in 2006, he was a 19 year old kid, most probably hanging on with buddies in Magura, while off the cricket.

As far as I can remember Shakib came on Cricinfo Magazine or something as a promosing future cricketer when he was only 15 (that should be sometime in 2002/3 then). He has been with cricket since then....can't understand why he was not interested in BD cricket in 2006!

Something about Shakib's attitude and personality (came out digging on the net):
"Shakib's finest attribute may be the way he has kept a level head despite his sudden rise to fame. His coach is hopeful this will not change.
"Considering our guys are not known for being articulate or for going through the school systems, he is one out of the box," Siddons concluded.
"He can speak to people on the street or a businessmen in a boardroom. He is down to earth and unassuming. I just hope he can keep his head on his shoulders and keep moving forward."

Shakib was referring to the match in 2004. He was still 17/18 then and was probably too busy playing cricket and having fun with school friends rather than watch BD lose match after match (like we do..)

Ash is ever positive. Hope play champ trophy next year.
Had it be BD in WI situation, by now many would have comeout against us to make way for the #9 team unless the main players are not in the team and this team has lost all series against the #9.
But its not BD, but WI in #8, so they will even go with a weaker team than #9.

It's probably just as well he didn't follow BD cricket - he's less likely to have been tainted by the culture of failure...

It hurts me a lot. I did not expect that from any Bangladeshi Captain.

I think Shakib was in the U17s and around at that time, nd when you are playing at that level, its hard to play/study/live a life AND watch a 7 hour long game, dats probably he didnt follow the games, to be honest very few professional players follow the games if the games clash with their practices and all
