Internet traffic at BC during the WC2007

Is BC anticipating a boost on visitors when the WC will be in full swing? Specially in the days of BD matches? Can this website handle a double load of traffic than a regular BD-Zim match? As long as the site don't slow down I wouldn't have any issue. Was just wondering do we have any backup plans/servers etc. When 400+ users tries to access same thread would there be any problem? Hope not.

It can't handle single load. every time during match the thread becomes slower to slower and then breaks couple of time too...

Our server can handle the load, on over thousand users visiting the forum, doing normal things.

The reason why it gets slowed down during match time is completely different. During match time, users try to make the forum act like real time chat environment. Every user refreshes the match thread several times within the minute, even with 200 users, the server experiences load similar to few thousand users.

Members can help out by not hitting refresh every second.

Forum discussion should be closed during match, perhaps re-opened during breaks. All real-time discussion should take place in the chat room. Match threads should serve as a place for proper match discussion. It's hardly necessary for dozen people to post a message everytime someone scores a boundary.

Aray, BC'tey notun pagole jonmaisey? After all we are 'bangali'. How do you expect us to sacrifice for others/greater good??? Server processor speed baran or make sure when I get in, the server recognises me as the boss and prioritise my queries.

We need to keep the BC chat room alive and encourage users to go there rather than here. Also, let them know that we have the ability to save the chats there and that will be added to the game thread. I think one main reason users don't want to go to chat room is that they feel like match thread is permanent by chat is not.

Another thing, though not too useful, banglacricket.blogspot.com belongs to me. If server is down, we can use that to communicate with members.

I like HB's suggestion... BUT:

past match threads have often provided ball by ball commentary and expressions of joy, and angst by BC members, as a result of which, we can still revisit them in the archives and relive those moments. I'd sure miss that if the match thread was essentially void of those moments

You can still get that if you use the chat room. Also, having the chat will make sure that everyone participates properly, and we don't have to see "out" 50 times before someone posting who's actually out.

My suggestions: lets keep Tigers_eye arrested, and detain him for the whole day during matches. When boss is under control, then there shouldn't be many problems

It always has been saved. All conversations in chatroom are logged.

In that case why not just insert a link of the transcript when the match thread is archived. This way all the real-time expressions of joy/sorrow can be preserved.

well, like nasif bhai pointed out, it's due to excessive refreshing, which is why people would have more fun in the chatroom. however, although i realize this, i never log on to the chatroom, but keep on refreshing the page every other second during game time.

one solution could be everyone posts mundane things in the chatroom, but big things like consecutive boundaries, shahadat injurying someone, milestones, hattricks, big partnerships, partnership breakers could be posted about in the threads.

Totally agree. I couldn't even get into the match thread today. We should start using the chat room more often. It was just a game against Canada. Imagine against India or Srilanka and BC server will definately crash.

And the problem when this happens is, nobody bothers to mention who was out, for how many runs, the total at that time, who got the wicket, how was that wicket taken, or ANY DETAIL at all.

I went to the BC chatroom today, but only Nasif bhai was there. I agree with cricman, if Nasif bhai can post the chat log for the match against Australia which BD won, everyone would know how exciting it is.

Other than that, I'm sorry to say, but match threads are utilized as post-hiking machines at times (no offense to anyone ).

Lets face it, users love to post in the match thread, and we all love to read 10 posts screaming a out or a 6. It feels great. Cant take that away.

We are looking for a solution for the long run, hopefully before WC, BC will be stable.

Mods can we have a small window like the front page with the updates showing.. Then it would be very cool. I mean this will be only on match threads and some who got the direct link can have access to update that. I mean in times there r only one or two persons getting the updates...
