Default BC bulletin : Honors even between BCB XI and South Africans after first day

Current/Forthcoming Tours

South Africa in Bangladesh, 2007-08
Honors even between BCB XI and South Africans after first day
17 February 2008
The bowlers of BCB XI showed a spirited display in the first day of the 3-day practice match against the touring South Africa at Fatullah Osmani Stadium today. At one stage South Africans were reduced to 274 for 8, but a 9th wicket unbroken 55 run partnership between Mark Boucher and Dale Steyn helped them to push the total to 329 at the close of the first day.

SA showed how they can turn around after certain hiccups during an innings. It was a spirited show by BD boys - alright; at the same time it was a good learning for them as well to see how a superior team plays within each sessions (35/2 then 159/3; Again 274/8 then 329/8 and being not out at the end of Day 1). I think Shakib was saying about the target of batting through the whole day or bowling them out by Day 1. From that perspective - it was good but not perfectly alright.

In a test match, between 300 and 350 first innings total I'd take it and run. More good news because certainly, Mash, Rafiq would boost this attack.

Agree with you 100%. If our batsmen can step up and deliver, and we restricet SA to 300 to 350, the Test match will get very interesting.

Saffers are chockers when it comes to spin!
Its a known fact!

C'mon Rafiq, sharpen your tools.

I still want him in my team, esp in this spin-friendly conditions.

Lets just hope that his performance is sooo great in this coming series, we'd beg him to stay for one more year.

hells yea...this is a top bowling effort, with better fielding we could have held em under 300 i reckon. lets remember mash, rajib, and rafique (our top 3 test bowlers ever) are not playing. that means 3/4 of our attack won't be exposed to these saffers on what should be a different pitch. good job by think tank!

our batsman need to score minimum 250 and anything close to 300 will leave me satisfied.

Kalpurush is right. Calling it an even honors at this stage is premature. Remember Boucher is not Mushy and Smith or whoever in the slip will not let go any possible catch. Due to bad fielding we are already in the backfoot.

Miraz bhai, one small mistake in the article.

Hashim Amla made the score in 120 balls. Not 155.

Honors is definitely even based on first days play, the scenario might change tomorrow and one team might gain advantage.

Based on the score Bd players should be happy about their performance in day 1 but I am more interested in how the bat. Our first inning scores are so abysmal that we can never entertain the thought of a win or a draw. Must make 350 in first inning. It's proven like a theorem that our batters cannot save a match so everything depends on first inning total.

Mushi again dropping catches and that of Kallis. If he doesnt get any run here, he definitely needs to be dropped and have Pilot play the first game.

what else would "honors even be"?

SA being shot out for 56 and Bangladesh being 200-0 at the end of the days play?

lets be realistic for once...this is a bangaldesh team without our strike bowlers (although rasel seems to be making a serious case for himself) and against a full strength side of a team which happens to be the 2nd best side in the world (officially).

now if, as usual, our batsmen fold for 150, then the saffers will be well on top. but so far, it is honors even.

the important thing will be how the bartsmen BAT.

specially SAKIB, AFTAB, JUNAIS, MUSHFIK, RAJIN, NAFEES, those who are in contention for the tests.

thats true, but that means we have one side of coin figured out...its just the other side which is friggin retarded.

cuz with our batting, we have to limit teams to 100-150 to call it honors even. a bowling attack with steyn, murali, mcgrath, and the 2 Ws couldn't pull that off.

LOL, your perspective is highly presumptuous. Fortunately I practice a different perspective where things open up above any obscurity. Lets return with at least a century and a half century from our batsmen. Its our backyard, familiar condition and SA team still need time get suited.
But that is future, Also the kind of score you put in up there.
Hope will keep our dreams alive as I admire Tehsin's signature.

No, we need to be able to score 300+ regardless of opponent to call it honors even, As simple as that & realistic as well.
