Here is why that I think selectors are doing a 'dumb & dumber' job this time.
1. One specialist opener in Hannan / Shahriar is fixed (Whatmore or anyone else wouldn't experiment with 2 make-shift openers in Alok & Rana at the same time in the same match, unless its for a no-cause like probably in the 3rd ODI)
2. Either another specialist opener in Shahriar / Hannan (which I think is not likely) or Rana will be 2nd opener (I don't see Alok in the opening again) And so Rana will probably be the 5th/6th bowler
3. Sumon - fixed
4. Rajin - fixed
5. Ashraful - fixed
6. Mushfique - fixed
7. Pilot - fixed
8. Sujon - fixed
9. Rafique - fixed
10. Tapash - fixed
11. Tareq - fixed
In my above calculations, I can't even select Alok Kapali, who will most certainly be in the One-Day team.
Only one thing can happen, Mushfique to play in place of either Tapash or Tareq and either Tapash or Tareq will be left out.
So, we're gonna either play with at least 1 make-shift opener or at least 1 specialist pace bowler short.
So where does Foisal and/or Raj come in? Because I find it the most difficult a choice even to put in Alok Kapali and Monjurul Rana (who are most certainly to be there) in their regular positions.

By the way, the only rational explanation that I can see for including Raj is that we're trying to find a possible suitable replacement for Rafique. Can anyone think of other logical explanations?

In addition, the next tours coming up for Bangladesh after the West Indies tour is going to be 4 home tours, 5 actually if we consider the Asia cup as well.
Because, Sri Lanka's conditions are very similar to Bangladesh, (and those 4 home tours include NZ tour of BD, SL tour of BD, IND tour of BD and/or BD tour of IND during April, ZIM tour of BD, the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka); to be precise, there's no away tour for the Bangladesh team AT ALL.
So why include Raj now, and not wait for him to include later in any of those tours/tournaments where including 4 seamers (in Tapash, Tareq, Mushfique & Sujon) in the final eleven is quite unthinkable? Rather, including 2 specialist spinners is a logical move by the selectors of any team (in Rafique, Rana/Raj / both Rana & Raj)?

adding too many kochi- chokra is not a good idea for the national team at this time. They need to be rip longer to get a place in the squad.

Alok Kapali should not open. That is not his position. Manural Islam Rana was given one chance and he prooved to be excellent. Order should be (of fixed players):
Hannan Sarkar/Shahariar Hossain
Manjural Islam Rana
Habibul Bashar
Rajin Saleh
Mohammad Ashraful
Alok Kapali
Khaled Mashud
Mushfiqur Rahman/Khaled Mahmud
Mohammad Rafique
Abdur Razzaq/Tareq Aziz
Tapash Baisya

Unofficial ODI Team
In the previous posts I had suggested the following ODI team for the upcoming WI tour.
1. Shahriar Hussain
2. Manzur Rana
3. Habib-ul-Bashar
4. Rajin Saleh
5. Mohammad Ashraf
6. Tushar Imran
7. Mushfiq-ur-Rahman
8. Khaled Mashud
9. Mohammad Rafique
10. Tapash Baisya
11. Tareq Aziz
12. Alok Kapali
13. Hannan Sarkar
14. Khaled Mahmud
15. Alamgir Kabir
I do not know where BangladesherKhela get their information, but the inclusion of Abdur Razzak in questionable. Don't get me wrong. I am sure he has immense potential. I am against including him because we already have similar bowlers(slow left arm orthodox) in the likes of Rafique and Rana in the team. He should be introduced when Rafique retires in a few years. Morevoer, we may need to include a pacer considering the unique conditoins that the WI is going to offer. Tareq Aziz seems to be the only genuine prospect (pace) in the team. Mahmud and Mushfiq are good part-time bowlers. Tapash is ok till Mashrafee returns. Alamgir Kabir has performed reasonably in Pakistan, Zimbabwe, and at home against Zimbabwe. So, why not include him?
Faisal Hussain needs to be groomed further. He has only performed well this season in the domestic first class competition. His stats in one-dayers do not look that promising. I am sure he will join the national ranks along with Nafis Iqbal in a few years. For now, I would go with Tushar Imran becuase of his decent performance in the Patron's Cup (Pakistan) and also the home series against Zimbabwe A. Plus, he fits well in the no. 6 spot. What do you guys think?

So far from the looks of the Zimbabwe tour (only 3 ODI games), it seemed like Sujon's position is fixed at 8.
I am making a new thread implicating his future in Bangladesh cricket.

Alamgir Kabir has been doing well for the 'A' teams, but for some reason, his performances are not converted into the national team's figures whenever he has played for the Bangladesh national team. He already has played 3 test matches, and I fail to see the reason behind Alamgir's inclusion in the national team all over again.

What about Enamul Haque JNR. ????? why is he not included? he caused a lot of problems for the english batsmen and he had a very good u-19 worldcup. Im glad Rokon's not picked as he is rubbish! I feel sorry for Monjural Islam though as he is a great talent, better than Tariq Aziz and Alamgir Kabir who just simply give away too many runs.

If not Kabir then who? Munir? Or you don't want to include an extra pacer at all? Kabir is being suggested not so much for his skills but more for his availability and exposure in the last season. Plus, his performance in tests does not necessarily mean he is not fit for ODIs. 140 million people can't produce a replacement for Mashrafee!

Enamul Junior still hasn't learnt to bowl a proper line & length everytime - consistently, so he is not the perfect spinner to bowl on flatter tracks where there is no help for the spinners.
I agree that without Alamgir Kabir, there is no one at the moment among the youngsters who can come in to play for the Bangladesh National team on the basis of the performances of the 'A' team over the last year. Which is why I am more surprised or rather, displeased at the fact that Monjurul Islam is dropped from the ODI squad. This is true that he is unable to take wickets in recent times, but he is effecting in checking the run-rate down.

Sujon, Foisal and Raj will return from the West Indies after the ODI series is over and Javed Omar, Anwar Hossain Munir and Enamul Haque Junior will replace them in the Test matches.

Good one. that gave me a penny for thought. well, 140 milion people can't produce lots of things. here is a short list:
*140 million people can't produce ONE good leader.
*140 million people can't produce engineers to build a bride (we always hire foreigners).
*140 million people can't produce qualified doctors so that we don't have to run to other countries.
* 140 million people can't produce one world class film.
*140 million people can't produce ONE good cop.
*140 million people can't produce one safe life. (forgive wording, but got the idea).
* 140 million people can't produce anything......... what the h**l we are good at!

Dear Agent: How's it going man? What's all this pessimism from a bright guy like you? I must say, your bit about the inability of 140M people is not correct, in my opinion.
We have produced good world class leaders throughout the history of the subcontinent, as we even do now. The Mughals relied on local Bengal leaders for government, instead of direct rule. The anti-british movement is full of contributions of Bengali leaders. Very recently we have produced Mujib & Zia.
Engineering: The "Tista Barage" project, a glorious example of our engineering capabilities - was built entirely by Bangladeshi Engineers. The reason we use foreign Engineers is that the donors attach such conditions on these projects. Bangladeshi Engineers have designed and built many, many bridges successfully.
We have qualified doctors. Access to treatment and medicine in Bangladesh is better than it is here in the USA. Fortunately, the health industry is not yet entirely controlled by greed of the pharmaceutical and insurance companies as it is here.
We have produced world-class film long before many many countries in the world. Once the middle class starts going back to the theaters, quality movies will be produced again. As a matter of fact, the movement has already begun with a few bright, good filmmakers.
Every year, we have police officers that sacrifice their lives in the line of duty for others. There are many honest officers also.
As for the safety of life, dear agent, it is much better than in many so-called civilized countries. The crime rate in a country of 140 million people is astonishingly low compared to even the USA. The murders, burglaries, robberies, rape and other stats are much lower in Bangladesh, as surprising as it may be to you. Remember, we have half the population of the USA; considering, it is no short of a miracle that we live so well together. So well, that the media is forced to sensationalize high profile murders to make money.
Our 140 million produce plenty. Bangladesh is an agrarian based economy, not industry based. It's changing more rapidly than you might think. Our success in increased production of food is highly regarded and a benchmark for success. We are used as examples of such success by other countries. Our newly emerging industry sectors are beginning to produce high quality, precision machinery starting from Cable & wire, Automation machines, mass production manufacturing plants, generators, motors, hardware, polymer products, plastics and many other things. First hand experience: I am importing Bangladeshi electrical hardware to supply to the US government myself.
Please be respectful to your country and be more aware of our achievements. This way you don't hurt the feelings of others that love Bangladesh.
By the way, we are actually world class in some sports such as shooting, chess and, oh yes, cricket. We are among the top ten in a sports that ranks among the top 3 sports in popularity. You will be happy to know, we are improving in cricket at full speed. Mashrafee, is just one of many more to follow.
Best wishes, Agent.
