Default CI: 'Here to give teams a hard time' - Mushfiqur

'Here to give teams a hard time' - Mushfiqur

Mohammad Isam in Mirpur

"Even though we had played badly during the Asia Cup and the Sri Lanka series, I didn't expect it to be so bad [against Hong Kong]," Mushfiqur said. "It is alarming. The only message to the team is that we have nothing to lose so we better give 200%.

"The opponent must feel that we are here to give them a hard time. If we can do that, I am sure we have the ability to win a few of the four matches."

If that team is Bangladesh then I think Mushfiq has made a solid statement of giving the team a hard time

I just hope Reza is not in the team EVER AGAIN

What does it mean to give 200%? First off, you can not give more than 100% effort. This is an unrealistic statement that we often use in our day-to-day speech. Often, such unrealistic demands are repeatedly drum into our mind by people around us. You can’t give more effort than you can give. I will be happy if they are persistent and consistent in giving even 90% of their efforts on every match.
Also having the right attitude is a key here. Attitude might not be everything but it is always 100%!

It seems like they don't believe that they can reach the semifinal.

Agreed. It does give a negative impression. Like they have already given up.

Everything is wrong with this team. The board, the selectors, the coaches, the captain, idiotic selections- everything!

The figure 200% is not unrealistic at all! It's there in different situations. You pay 400% TAX in BD for buying foreign cars.

That's BD captain. Amazing what other players thinks, they probably thinking just be in the field and get match fee and tell everyone I play for BD.

The figure 200% is not unrealistic, but somone to give 200% effort is unrealistics. The best effort that someone can give is 100%, not even 100.5%.

As you said there are different situations. There is no upper limit when you give tax, but in case of effort, you cannot give more than 100%.

So I agree with reverse_swing.

I think Mushy's next goal as captain is to get Revenge on Hong Kong. So every game till we play Hong Kong next is irrelevant. As Shakib pointed out, we need to enjoy and provide constructive criticism. They are not professional athletes who can play with pressure. This batch based on their age should take Bangladesh cricket into 2026 or so.

Maybe the next batch after that will show some hunger and desire to do more than show up and simply make up the numbers.

I am starting to dislike the comments made by Mushfiq infront of media.

But I can't help but feel that BCB has forbidden from making any statement that would disrupt the peace in the dressing room. Though don't get what he meant by "nothing to lose". We are a test nation for 14 years playing in front of our home, we have everything to lose.

I think Mushfiq, by stating "nothing to lose", he is revealing a lot what's going on in a player's mind. If you think, the core players ( the inner circle of Mushfiq's buddies) are pretty much well postioned in the team and thanks to Mushfiq and t Faruk. they have no reason to fear or afraid to lose their slot. Therefore they have nothing to lose. They know very well that captain and the coach will never hurt thier feeling by dropping them. They also know that if they are dropped by Faruk, Rahim will fight back and make Faruk's life miserable.

So if you reaaly think: Rahim is right. our core players have nothing to lose even if they lose all the games badly. They are un touchable as long as Rahim and the coach is there as their protector.

So kudos to Rahim for telling us the real truth.

Extremely disappointig words from a captain who's leadership now seems to be even more sissfied than Riyad's death over batting. Rahim and Shakib are basically telling us they will lose all the games. Gutless sissies

that's very disappointing from Mushy, sounds like accepted defeat even before trying.
faltu.
This is T20 dude, you do well in all 3 departments , the team that gets the best out of it's players in 20 overs wins the match, as simple as that.

Mushy needs to step down as captain... I could care less about what he says to the media but his on field blunders are making him a liability to the team. In every single match we have lost this year, he has made the wrong bowling change and field setting. He does not have the ability to learn from past mistakes and is moving forward to become the worst captain in the history of the sports.
