Few columns about Bangladesh
It seems that CI is getting excited as well!
Quote:
Matthew Hayden's three hours of calculated violence was indisputably the best innings of the second round, indeed the tournament, but none was as charming as Mohammad Ashraful's 87 against South Africa. "Sweet, boy, sweet", West Indians whistled while watching the little boy shimmy outside off stump and flip big fast bowlers behind the keeper.

Thank you, then, first of all to Bangladesh for making the next phase relevant. Their vigour and poise has been a pleasure and an inspiration. May they slay a thousand more giants.

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have not only fielded better, they have enjoyed doing so much more. Jonty Rhodes says that fielding should be fun and, watching these two, you see the wisdom of simple words.

We are a happy side, we play happy cricket, watching us play makes people happy. Simple as that.

I hope the tomorrow will be sunny and our boys will have some good crowd support. It always cheers them up and helps them play better cricket.

Here's what Aaqib Javed has to say about our recent improvements.

Eh why not? We play rubbish in gloomy, rainy conditions, and seem to play with much flair when it's sunny, and noisy.

Aaqib, who played 22 Tests and 163 one-day internationals, criticised Whatmore for showing his untimely interest in India. "He should not have said this. When you are in charge of a team and especially involved in a big event, a coach should put his heart and soul behind the team," he said. "I understand that everybody needs money but like doctors and teachers, coaching is also a different kind of profession where ethics is very important. Being the Bangladesh coach, he should have not expressed his desire for other jobs openly. He can negotiate it personally."
Did not like this part where he criticized Dav. I think Aaqib acted just like most x-paki players do against foreign coaches whenever they faulter. I think we can do without these kinds of criticism now and not pollute Dav's mind for our own sake though it was Dav who started the whole thing. We need him to just focus on the team without having to think about the mess he created.

From The Guardian this time:
Don't be surprised if Bangladesh beat England
Quote:
In a nation of 150 million people, where cricket is the No1 sport, there is a serious talent pool. Crowds of 20,000 have been known for club finals. Perhaps most impressively, as I was told by a colleague who had recently returned from the Under-19 World Cup, they have a well-organised system of school cricket. It's conducive to identifying, improving and encouraging the best young players. The system is influenced heavily - and wisely - by Australia. The National Academy is run by Allister de Winter, who had a similar job at Western Australia.

From the Independent:
Quote:
England looked like following India and South Africa and becoming Bangladesh's third big scalp of the tournament when Mohammad Rafique bowled Andrew Flintoff and Ravi Bopara in the 32nd over of their reply. Requiring 144 to win, England had withered to 110 for 6 on a pitch offering assistance to Bangladesh's capable spinners.

Bashar looked at Shahriar in disgust but it was he who had acted like an Under-13 cricketer.

A long, long time ago, when Akram was 2 pounds lighter and when Rafique was still a chengra pola with no hope, Aaqib Javed had sort of beaten the crap out of our bowlers and asked our players not to make an attempt to qualify for the world cup, because according to him, we would be spoiling the party with our inferior abilities.
A few years later, we made it to the world cup, but Aaqib didn't. He watched his team go down sitting at home.
Yet another few years later, he came to Bangladesh as the coach of an academy side and got his butt whooped in the first game of the series against the local boys.
Manush chena bohut aagei howe gese.
