Default cold meat

the eating of cold meat seems to be far more common in the colder climes. perhaps this is natural as meat would not rot so quickly as it would do in warmer conditions. i can't think of any traditional recipes from the indian subcontinent that serves cold or unheated meat. are there any?

i gave up eating meat in the mid nineties. even before then i had not been a great meat eater from the early nineties onwards. however, as a child i remember a recipe from my mother that utilised qurbani meat. the meat was cured and marinated somehow. then it went in the fridge and stayed there. it was called 'salted' and we later ate it with mustard. i don't think this would have been a traditional bangladeshi recipe anyway.

any thoughts?

I haven't come across any subcontinental recipes for cold meat either, but I do savor cold, spicy Chinese meat dishes. Maybe I'll cook myself some tonight.

i prefer to shop for food at markets rather than supermarkets. however, i went into the local sainsburys last night for some bread. i noticed that the ready to eat meat section had several varieties of chicken including a spicy chinese chicken wing tray, which could be eaten hot or cold.

My mom used to make cold beef sandwiches (white bread with edges trimmed off + cold beef slices + mayo + ground pepper) for lunch all the time. I am not sure how the cold beef was made, but it was most likely a slice off a chuck roast. I am not sure if it was her own original recipe or if it was in the family, but my aunts would make it too. But I've never seen it outside our extended family.

Man, I was just thinking... how much we ate as kids. For me it was typically:

1) breakfast at 7am
2) school lunch/tiffin at 10:50am
3) home lunch at 2:00pm
4) supper (?) at 6:00pm
5) dinner at 9:30-10:00pm

(and snacks spread out in between 3 and 5)

Nowadays, I barely eat 2 meals a day... usually skip breakfast (yes, I know it's bad), lunch around noon and dinner at 6:00-7:00pm.

i had that pattern up to my 12th birthday as soon after that we had left bangladesh. my number four used to be a mug of ovaltine (with milk and not water!) and sometimes, some forced fruits.

these days i have an apple or grapefruit for breakfast when i get a chance, a bar or snickers around half ten, a heavy lunch including two sandwiches, crisps and cereal bar around two, supper at around seven or eight, tea and lots of biscuits around ten

I love peppered beef jerky... but it always ends up making me sick (probably cause I eat too much of it in one go)...

Roast Beef, Spicy Mustard, Lettuce, Green Pepper (why the hell they call it Popsicum in BD?), few Jalapeno, Salt and Pepper, Oil and Vinegar
Or
Replace Roast Beef with Pastrami and Spicy Mustard with Horseradish.

Yum Yum!

Cold Meat, some also call it a 'Hunter Beaf' that's one of my favorite. It has a Bangladeshi recipe, but I'm sure it's an imported one, adapted to our taste.

It is a Hole chunk of meat, needs to be seasoned with lemon, bit salt, Vinegar, Black peeper etc overnight. The chunk of meat needs to be treated with a fork a bit to have some perforations for proper seasoning/Marination. Then coock it to sften, freez it in (Not Deep) and cut into slices then eat it with your favoured sauce.
