Default Australians v Somerset

Australia scored 342 in 50 overs, nothing surprsing about that.

17 overs gone in the Somerset innings and the score is- 148 for no loss at 8.5 an over ! Smith 75* and Jayasuriya 68*

Looks like this summer will not go the way the Aussies planned it

Greame Smith is blasting all the bowlers all around the park. He even overshadowed Jayasuriya who's know to belt the ball!!!
Is this a serious practice match or a longer version of the 20-20 tournament?
Well, its good to see Aussies getting walloped which proves that they're humans too!

Cricinfo is up.

Smith gone for 108, Jaya is 95*. Somerset needs 125 in 24 overs.

Australia decided to go in with four main bowlers and split the rest between Clarke and Hussey. But it flopped because Watson - who was one of the four - went for 41 in 3 overs. Now it looks like Clarke will bowl ten and Hussey and maybe Watson will share the other ten.

Both Hayden and Ponting were retired out. They are taking the practice match as a "practice" match only. But I doubt they were expecting Somerset to wallop their bowlers like this.

99 runs from 19 overs needed with 8 wickets in hand. This should be a easy sailing for Somerset from here.

The Aussie pacers seem a bit rusty to me. After all, they haven't played in a competetive setting for a few months now. The two lefties in Smith and Jayasuriya has taken them to task. Is that something to ponder about?

According to CI, Andrews and Blackwell who are now batting are left handers too

Somerset lost 2 quick wickets. This is going to be tighter than I thought. They now require 81 runs from less than 14 overs with 6 wickets in hand. Will be very interesting to see how they hold their nerves in the death overs.

Poor Somerset is playing without their injury hit front line bowlers- Andrew Caddick, Nixon McLean (WI), and Test-capped Richard Jonson.

Ponting offered to loan several of his players including Gilchrist and Symonds to Somerset, but director of Somerset refused the offer.

James Hildreth looks like a good future for England. Last year he scored 210 in a Test against Bangladesh U/19. He also came to our country to play U/19 WC. A very attacking bat.

CHI CHI Australia. I think AUstralia even lost to Hampshire on the 2001-2002 tour if I am right.

The game is played in Taunton, according to Rob, one of the flattest pitch in the world with very even bounce. So, Aussie bowlers other than McGrath really did not have any tricks to stop Somerset.
