Considering all other games ,Cricket is one of the most popular game in our country and yet BCB could not manage a sponsor for the league which is really unfortunate.

So, who do you think has the strongest team on paper? Mohammedan appears to have built up the strongest team but old DOHS and City Club can give them a run for the money. I am not sure Ash and Sonargaon has enough firepower.

The team with one or more match winner who comes through the most will win.

So that leaves the competitiion down to
Abahani(Shadab Kabir)
City Club(Tushar Imran and Tatenda Taibu)
Sonargaon(Ashraful)
Old DOHS(Tikolo)
Mohammedan(Bashar and Aftab)

So if you look at all these players which one do you think will come big the most?

I know it's a team sport and the way i'm looking at it is very narrow minded, but if the best players play big that means that there team will have the best chance of winning.

city club, mohammedan and old DOHS seem to have built the strongest teams. disappointed to see abahani's line-up. also, surprised to see anisur rahman still playing.

owing to the two africans, i'd say city club and old dohs seem to have pretty decent teams. mohammedan seems to have formed the best all-desi squad this time round.

it's nice to see how cricket in dhaka is no longer limited to a certain bunch of clubs.

I here by conclude that Ash's big performances are flukes. Its just his luck that gets him those hundreds once in a while. And the worse thing is he is getting all the money he wants without producing much of the runs. Pathetic!

When would our team have a talented, consistent batsman? Sigh...

I ike the way Shahriar Nafees is progressing his career. He can play situational innings pretty well. He can defend when needs be and accelerate when demanded. Good going.

Bashar is among runs. Good news for us.

Ehsanul Haque Shejan is playing like he wants to get recalled to the national side.

Ashraful is very very dissapointing. I never though he values his wkt enough. I am not sure what he wants to be. He either goes into a total shell ( he was playing ultra defensive in '04 ) or comes out gung ho irrespective of the situation.

Aftab has jaundice now and out of action.

agree. he paces his innings well compared to some others in the team. What makes him stand out from let's say Rajin or Pilot, (i.e the other 2 who have reasonable ability to play a measured innings) is that he is a far more gifted strokeplayer .

i think he will do well as a test batsman. Not sure about his captaincy at the moment.

i agree with all of you. having watched nafees play (i'm sure most of you have, too ), i can say that he looks very good indeed - probably better than any of the other openers we've had since getting the ODI status. i don't want to jinx him (:P), but if he can keep his head cool and improve on his game, he can become a valuable asset for the team.

he is in fact my favourite in the current BD team.

Shahriar Nafess is a good prospect, but he is not there yet in terms of international cricket. And at the moment I think only him and Aftab has the ability to be more consistent than any other batsmen in our team. You may wanna include Javed Omar for the test consistency, he is getting there too. Bashar hmm...haven't really seen anything special from him lately.

you sure? what about the 80 odd against sri lanka that could very well have been a 100 had he not been unfortunate with a certain third-umpire decision?

see the thing with ashraful is that he is immensely talented, and whenever he scores (irrespective of how very rarely that might be), he seems to create history. the test century against sri lanka, the quick 50 against the full-strength zim team in their own backyard, the odi ton against the aussies and the 94 against the pommies are all relevant examples. you never know when he will score - he's just so inconsistent. i'm also not sure that we can afford to drop him from the squad, given our small pool of cricketers of international class.

having said that, i agree that playing like dog poo in return for 9 lakhs is not fair at all, and that we might as well sit him out for a couple of matches if he doesn't do so well in the next couple of series. this might help him rethink about his game and make a grand come-back. however, i have a feeling that he may not be as inconsistent as it looks like. his performance in the natwest series was awesome, and we probably shouldn't judge him from a single series against the lankans; but then again he did fail in the test series in england, and many times before that as well. i remember he had a pretty high batting average this year until the beginning of the sri lankan tour (if i recall correctly). i will try to dig up some stats if i have the time.

besides, i believe that we expect too much from him at times, which actually makes the whole inconsistency thing look even bigger. i am of the opinion that if we want ash's head, we'd probably want aftab's first.
