One of ICC's proposals: Playing Home & Abroad

One of the proposals of the ICC that they will be focusing on in the next meeting is letting Bangladesh play majority of their International matches at home.

While I have nothing against a 4-year-system for 8 big tests teams and 6-year-system for Bangladesh and Zimbabwe; but what will their proposal of playing only Home Tests mean?

It will force Bangladesh's development as a cricketing nation because of the following reasons:

1. In long term, Bangladesh will only be able to produce spinners and hence, not many quality fast bowlers will arise on the horizon

2. Batsman will find spinners to play way better than pacers

3. Not to mention the fact that our players will be clueless when they play against bouncers on bouncy pitches,

Because there simply won't be enough matches for our players to get themselves accounted to playing outside the subcontinent.

In one sentence, cricket will be doomed and the growth or the development of cricket that has been going on currently in Bangladesh, will be short-lived. Since we won't be playing away matches, so there won't be any reason for us to practice on conditions that are not suitable for our usual game play - on low bouncy & turning wickets.

One good example: Why is our current national league being played mostly on green wickets this season? Because we have an England tour coming up where pitches will be supposed to be green (well you get the idea) so we need to assess how our players will be able to cope with the situations overseas. If we did not have this England tour right now, if we had never been to Australia or South Africa before, then would we have identified our lack of adjustments to those top nations' wickets and conditions?

Answer is quite easy and simple. No.

If this is going to be imposed on us (and Zim also), there is something that we can do to overcome those abovementioned shortcomings:

1. We should arrange more matches between BD and Zim, as it will not be restricted and their pitches are also hard and bouncing ones.
2. We should arrange "Unofficial Test" matches between us and the 1st tier teams, which was a practice in early days.
3. We should take part as BCB team in tournaments like Pura Cup, Duleep trophy and so on.
4. We should arrange tours to England, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand to play with the top domestic cricket teams of those countries. I mentioned these countries, because their conditions are quite different then ours.
5. We have to improve our ODI performance sharply, on which there is no restrictions imposed, and this will show the nature of our improvement.
6. While going for "Away" ODI tours, we should include some 4 day matches with the top local teams and "A" Teams of those countries.

You can add some more points.

ok. enough is enough. i've long refrained from commenting on this topic (the bloody tier system i mean), solely because i had nothing to say. but looks like too many ppl are too worried about what should happen when the tier system IS imposed on us.

well, stop bullshi***ng ppl...the tier system should NOT BE THERE at all! and the bcb should take every steps to ensure that it's not. lobi and his chela's should have the ba**s to speak up at icc meetings, talk sense instead of useless sh*t, and do anything to to prevent the bloody icc from creating this tier system. it will definitely take us back a couple of years, and we will suffer unimaginably. bangladesh and zimbabwe should in fact boycott cricket if such a tier is introduced - yes, thats what we should do if the tier's imposed on us. let's see the damn icc tackle that!

i believe that everyone should play his/her part in preventing the icc from degrading us to an inferior tier. protests should be sent not only from the bcb but also from the fans. any ideas anyone? how about we send a letter to the icc opposing the idea and making all our concerns clear (they probably don't realize the adverse effects a tier system may have on the development of cricket - fatty brains they've got) and with all members' name on it? We have a couple of hundred members here and that will be quite a big protest.

Keep in mind that the tier will bring serious consequences upon our cricket.

Amen! If the tier system is passed, then it will be more humiliating than complete banishment from test cricket. And it will kill our cricket anyway, so why not go for self destruction instead of being slowly killed by International Cricket Corporation?

you dont get the point. the icc is not strong enough to endure the loss of two full test members. if we boycott cricket, they will HAVE to reinstate our right to play top level test cricket.

I am afraid the demotion is going to happen and there is not much we can do about it. Since the ICC meeting will take place in June and we will be touring in May our only hope lies in performing well in England. I hope our players don't let us down (as they have so many times in the past).
