BCB is relocating floodlights from Rajshahi Divisional Stadium to SBNS
Relocation of floodlights from Rajshahi Divisional Stadium to SBNS
The Tri-Nation Cricket Series to be hosted by Bangladesh in June has raised massive interest both at home and abroad. The day-night competition, which will feature Sub-continental cricket powers India, Pakistan alongside Bangladesh is one of the most exciting events in the international cricket calendar this season.
In view of the timing of the tournament the BCB feels that holding day-night matches would provide relief and comfort to the spectators and players from the excessive summer heat. Both Indian and Pakistani cricket boards have also requested day-night matches from the same consideration. Day-night games are also vital commercially as that will ensure increased revenue from TV viewership.
As the time between now and the Tri-Series is not sufficient for importing and installing floodlights at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, the BCB in national interest has decided to relocate the lights from Rajshahi Divisional Stadium to Dhaka. The Board wants to state this clearly that this a purely temporary measure and the lights will be relocated and reinstalled at the Rajshahi Divisional Stadium after the Tri-Nation Series.
The SBNS in any case will have new floodlights installed ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
The BCB is acknowledges Rajshahi's role as a traditional cricketing centre and is highly appreciative of Rajshahi's contribution in providing the bulk of quality cricketers for national and other representative sides.
