Default Streak & Flower

Zimbabwe set to appoint Andy Waller as their new coach. Heath Streaks contract ran out. Its not sure whether he or Grant Flower will be a part of Zimbabwe's support team in future. Neither traveled with Zimbabwe in their West Indian tour and we all know how that went.

This is a terrific opportunity for BCB. We have a very good batting lineup. Experienced guys are performing, and then we have the younger prospects in Anamul, Mominul, Shabbir, Shamsur etc. BCB was looking for a specialist batting coach. Grant Flower could be a terrific candidate for this role.

Heath Streak can also bring in a lot of experience for our pace bowlers. Let him work at academy level, or even the national team. From what i heard about him he is a very hands on coach with good man management skill.

Both guys are very capable, very ambitious. Both future head coach material. If their country doesnt value them, why dont we take advantage of the situation.

Streak is out of the equation as Shane himself is a bowling coach. We can try to have him for our Academy but don't think Streak would like to be involved with academy after successfully completing a national team role. I would love to have G Flower as our coach though

G Flower worked as Zim batting coach for quite some time. But there wasn't any significant improvement on their batting. Except Taylor, no single batsmen established himself in the international stage. So I don't know how effective he will be.

For bowling coach, we all know Ian will be interested.

SJ cannot be a head and bowling coach. If he is made the permanent head coach, we can have Streak as the pace coach. ZIM pacers definitely did well under him.

I don't think BCB will take advantage of this situation, though.

When I said Streak is out of the equation, this is exactly what I meant. BCB as we all know can be cheap sometimes. They are not going to hire 2 Bowling coaches at the same time. Don't look that far. Take a look at our fielding coach. He is also responsible for our batting.

Why pay more when you can pay less and still get the job done is BCB's logic. Is that an effective way? That is a different topic

We need a good bowling coach, with so bad situation with our pace bowling. Hope Mushtaque is joining soon. Batting I'm sure, the academy coach can fix if any player has any issue, otherwise there is not much o teach in batting. Boyz just need to pracice ... Bowling needs a lots of things o understand and drills to perform, that's hard for them to do alone..

Disagree buddy. Many of the Zimbabwean batsmen are quite polished. Internal politics, lack of opportunities, constant changesare killing their cricket. I bet if you get their batsmen to play in NCL they will do very well. And dont forget his brother is one of the best coaches in the World. Even if Grant is half as good i wouldnt mind him coaching our guys. The likes of Mushfiq, Nasir, Shakib and so on dont need a wizard. They are all in the right path, they just need someone to come and guide them. Grant Flower has a lot of experience

Regarding Streak, very true BCB will never approach another bowling coach with SJ already there. A person like Saber Hossain would have the vision and shrewdness to bring him in for an academy role to train the pacers.

Heath streak looks more enticing than a batting coach atm given the condition of our pace bowlers. I am really dissapointed at Shane Jurgenson as it is quite clear that he literally failed to bring the best (heck even decent) from pacers.

Agreed. Flower and Streak are top class outstanding guys. Maybe it's just that I don't watch other teams anymore besides Bd. But I just feel like those two are irreplaceable. Legends.

So when SJ retires, Streak can take over as HC?

One thing that's clear is that we need many good coaches. Cut the bureaucracy, don't keep 3 selectors. One selector is enough. Use the money to get more coaches.

Any source that says, these two are available and not already taken by some national or club sides?

Default Streak as batting coach

If we can't have Streak as bowling coach because SJ is here, how about have him as batting coach? I am sure, in keeping with BD tradition, he won't be too good at his job, but he might teach them all bowling in his spare time, lol..

We can employ Grant Flower as the wicket-keeping coach

SJ obviously not doing well with the pacers despite having been a fast bowler himself so i see no issue with bringing in a specialist fast bowling coach. if it's not working then you need to look for solutions.

Pakistan has lined up Grant Flower for the batting coach role. Interesting to see how forward thinking they are compared to us.

We should try and get Heath Streak. Seriously seems like he had left a good mark on zim pacers. Cricinfo article suggests.

Yeah even Keegan Meth bowls better than our guys. Hate the arrogance of the commentators, but Zimbabwe do have a decent pace lineup-Jarvis, Masakadza, Meth. Guys like Mpofu and Vitori are also there.
