Default What Should Bangladesh's Strategy Be For the 2nd Match?

Okay, I'm assuming that there are only two matches(Too lazy to check the schedule).

So, should BD go for the win and make it a Banglawash?

Or just play it safe for a draw and go quietly into the night with maiden series victory over they Mighty Aussies?

Anyone would work...but they shouldn't be complacent and allow the Aussies to fight back. Any fight back should be dealt with, severely.

Now discuss.

It would have been great if we had a specialist offie or a leggie. Jubair Hossain, Sohag Gazi would have been great instead of poor shafiul. Gazi would boost our batting too, Gazi has better record as abatsman in tests than Sabbir o think. Even Gazi has a hundred

Will toss be an issue? Should we bat 4th will it be unfortunate?

He is an allrounder.

Another offie would be excellent given that Australia have 6 lefties in their batting lineup

Warner
Khawa
Renshaw
Agar
Wade
O Keefe

So he is not a good enough offspinner for you because he can bat a bit? Miraz has to bat way better for him to become an all rounder. He is not there in terms of his batting. Miraz has done better than any specialist bd off spinner can dream of at the start of their career. Getting another spinner on top of the 3 we have would basically mean one of these guys wont get to bowl at all.
We dont need more off spinners or left armers. A leggie for sure but not the other varieties. Our weakness right now is with pace bowling.

Try to food poison Steve Smith, David Warner, Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon....the rest will be easily dealt in the field...

On a serious note, Bangladesh should rest both Shafiul and Soumya, play Mominul and Liton. We are not using 2 seamers because of the playing condition. Why waste a place by playing 2 seamers if not use them? Instead play an extra Batsman, cause our bowling is fine, batting is the worry. Open with Tamim and Imrul, Liton one-down, then Mushi, play Shabbir at 6. Tamim and Shakib will not bail us out every-time we are in a hole. Use Nasir's off-spin more, he was under-used last test. According to Mash, he is the best off-spinner in Bangladesh after Miraz. Bowling Nasir will give more room and variation with the trio of Shakib-Taijul-Miraz. If toss is won, Bat first with a 350+ target on mind. Anyway 300 will be enough scoreboard-pressure for the Aussies, but 350 to be safe. If that can be achieved, the dominoes will start falling right in order. But I have a feeling that
coach Hammer-Lion has a soft-corner for Soumya and won't let him be dropped. I'm personally fine with giving Soumya another test for his talents. I can guarantee, if Soumya clicks, Aussies will be eaten alive. Actually in the past whenever Soumya clicked big-time, the opposition was eaten alive. Plus he's a specialist slip-fielder and a part-time seamer in case we play with one quick. But if it was my choice, I'd play Mominul over Soumya. Another thing, Mustafiz needs support from the captain and the management, the way he gets in LOIs. I fear his talents are/will be misused or underused in Test cricket.

My thoughts exactly

Pace bowling was coming along, before Walsh decided he'll just steal a paycheck

Our pace bowling is ok, in south africa if we go with Taskin, Roy, Mustafizur we should be ok and take Shahid too in the squad, if we take our chances they should be able to take half the wickets, taskin especially has been a victim of our poor fielding, they've actually dropped more off his bowling than caught in tests and in odis catch rate would be around 70% off of taskin

In tests our batting is a concern without mominul in form and in the team

Ideally going forward

Tamim
Sarkar
Mominul
Mushfiq
Shakib
Mossadek
Das
Mehedi
Taskin/Taijul
Roy/Taijul
Mustafizur

I will drop Shabbir, and bring in Mominul. Definitely, one of Sarker/Imrul needs to be dropped. Mustafizur and Shafiul needs to bowl more despite Australia playing pace extremely well. Mushy was negative by not bowling them. Mustafizur is effective with the old ball, and should be trusted to remove the tail. Either way, the batsman needs to score more runs to apply pressure, and I'm afraid Sarker/Shabbir are unable to do that. Personally, I'll bring in Roy for Shafiul since Roy can build pressure.

BCB already announced an unchanged 14-man for the second test. So anyone hoping for Shanto, Roy, or anyone else can forget it. At best the changes we can see are Mominul and Liton, and maybe Taskin for Shafiul.

My line up would be -

Tamim
Soumya
Momin
Mushfiq
Shakib
Sabbir
Liton (WK)
Nasir
Miraz
Taijul
Taskin

Shafiul-Fizz both were useless in the last match. No point taking two seamers anyway. I will take an extra batsman over them.

Mushfiq needs to focus on his batting and take up the crucial #4 role, so Liton should be given the gloves.
