Hamish Marshall in Ireland?
Well,he just declined to play for NZ,and instead used his Irish passport to play in the county as a local player,so in the future,we might see him in the shamrock journey.

may be, but it is temporary. Ireland also declared their side for the upcoming one day matches

However, he has not ruled out a return to New Zealand in the coming years. Marshall said his decision was based on securing his financial future. "This has been the most difficult decision of my life," he said. "I have been extremely proud to represent my country during the last six years and have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of my time in the Blackcaps."
Marshall, 28, is currently registered as an overseas player with Gloucestershire but he carries an Irish passport, meaning he can remain as a local player. He has not played Test cricket since the tour of South Africa last April and was a late addition to New Zealand's World Cup squad, where he featured in three matches and scored one half-century.

He is following footstep of Craig Spearmean who also decided to stop playing for New Zealand in year 2000 but opted to play for Gloucestershire.
I dont think the players salary in New Zealand is any good. Before Craig spearmen I think there was another cricketer who decided to stop playing because he had better offer from a Bank

I dont think there is much money on playing NZ domestic league.
Any money to be made is from being in the national team.
So, if you are not so sure about your prospect in being the contracted 15 or so players, County cricket gives a much better financial security.
Too bad for NZ. they are also loosing some good players.

The batsman made 66 One-Day International appearances for New Zealand, also playing 13 Tests; the last of his international appearances came against Ireland in Guyana in March 2007.
"It would be a great boost for Irish cricket to have a player of the calibre of Hamish Marshall available," coach Phil Simmons said.
"We would intend to make use of his talent not just on the field, but within all our coaching structures. It’s our plan to have Hamish involved with our youth, women’s and elite squads, and that can only be good for Irish cricket.”
