Our young spinners need to learn to take 5 wickets in ODIs
It has now been decided by most fans here that our pace bowlers (Mashrafee included) can't be too much effective even on pace-bowling friendly wickets - such is the standard of our pace bowlers.
But now, we must move on from here, and the major improvement that we must make is for our spinners, who have been our saviors in bowling department for the majority of ODIs, is for them to learn how to take 5 wickets on turning pitches.
I am specifically referring this to all the young spinners of Bangladesh because Rafique is only a year or two away from retirement and from then onwards Enamul Junior, Monjurul Islam Rana and/or Abdur Razzak will have to shoulder the burden of spin bowling department for Bangladesh.
And since Rafique has been an International cricketer for 10 years and started his career when Bangladesh was a member of an ICC Associate country, so the expectations for our spinners will be much more huge than expectations from the old horse Rafique.

other than Enamul jr, i dont think other spin bowlers have the ability to take 5 wickets......
So, we need the new talented faces both in spin and pace bowling department for the longer version....
I mean to say we need wicket taking bowlers......in longer version, no one gives wickets down to long-off or by charging down the wicket............
So, teach our existing bowlers how to buy wickets and keep looking and build the new faces

fw, you have to keep one thing in mind. if you do not have good pacers, you can't win matches regularly. sure we don't have good pacers now and spinners are our strength. so, we've to play more spinners than pacers. but, when it comes to focusing on the future, we need to focus more on how to develop quality pacers not spinners. we do have good spiners, we need to maintain them but our main goal has to be to "create" quality pacers.

Rana can be a good one-day cricketer but his bowling with very liitle turn will be no threat to batsman in test matches. Enamul has to be the bowler who will be Bangladesh's main spinner in the test matches. :duh:

When the new rule of ODI cricket will take place ........ I dont think Rana will get chance in the 1st XI..........Enamul will play as a substitute in ODI matches.........

In the substitute rule.........BD will play an extra batsman who will be replaced by enamul i think because Enamul is far better than Rana as a bowler

But, look at today's match for an example.
We won't be able to bat and score 250 on each and every day, because we're simply not consistent enough with the bat.
With the bowling line up that we now have - we could have restricted England to the extent from where we could make the match a competitive one if we could score 40 to 50 runs more.
Also, when the pitches are turning, our spin bowlers are taking 2 to 3 wickets, whereas our pace bowlers are taking none.
When the pitches are helping pace bowlers, then our pace bowlers are getting some wickets - like on the day that we beat Australia.
However, what we would have really liked to see in a match situation like today's, was that for our pacers to get 2 or 3 wickets and then for our spinners to take 5 to 7 wickets and in the process, making the match a competitive one, or even win it even after scoring 200.
If you look at our 20 years of history in ICC trophies as an ICC Associate member, we have never been actually a brilliant batting side - we could never score 300 in a 50 over match even against other ICC Associate nations like Kenya. We were always good at scoring 200 odd, and then defending that total successfully.
This has been our tradition so far. Yes, we did beat Australia chasing - but that has to be one of the rare occassions for us - winning by chasing.

fwullah, I totally got the point that you wanting to say.....
At this moment i am sorry to say but the fact is our present bowlers are not capable enough to restrict the side within 200 in a decent enough pitch regularly................with this BD side, if you want to win regularly you have to make runs regularly.............. ,which is most likely to be achievable with the likes of ASH and co.
If we dont score regularly then we need to be satified with 2/3 upsets in a year.........till we have some new bowlers.
I think we need 2 more consistent batsman and 1 fast bowler and 1 spinner (at least) to regularly give the other nations run for their money...............

You can't 'create' quality pacers unlike batsmen. Good quality pacers are mainly natural talent. Once you spot a talent you just need to give him right training module to follow to hone his skills and achive perfection.
Form the looks of performance in this ODI series we need another good batsman with temperament and a fast / fast-medium bowler who is accurate in terms of line and length. And there we have it - a perfectly competitive outfit capable of winning maches every now and then once their mental aspect of the game enhanced.
It's important that Shahadat comes of age sooner than later which will make our opening bowling potent. Nazmul or Tapash will make good first change bowler where we need to field 3 pace bowlers in a match. Else Aftab is fine as 1st change bowler in dust bowls.
We need atleast couple of good knocks in every match, ideally one of them staying till the end possibly scoring a century, so that rest can try to build around him. I think the following players has shown that they can do it in their day.
Javed Omar, Habibul Bashar, Aftab Ahmed, Md Ashraful.
Nafees Iqbal and Rajin Saleh scored few half-centuries in ODIs, but never got to a stage to think that they would have transformed one of those to a ODI ton. But we would need them to show improvements in this aspect of the game. Tushar Imran still trying to make an impression and it's too early to comment on Shahriar Nafees.
After Bangladesh A team tour of England we have SL tour lined up. It would be interesting to see their development in next couple of months.

As I mentioned in another thread, the first thing our SLAs need to do is develop a gameplan to attach LHB. Right now they are only probing against RHBs.
