ian bishop @irbishi I hope Mushfiqur Rahim changes his mind. He has done a decent job and is only just beginning to develop his team into a better force.

Emotional Bangla Boyz.... Show isn't over yet.... Finish the T20s, get back home, think over and decide, Resign/Carry on and stick to it. Now onurodher ashor hobey and the he will continue ... What's the benefit.... An ill motivated captain ??
Amito jaite chaisilam, amare charte deya hoy nai...always working at the back of mind and doing business as usual....
I wanted him to continue and develop as a captain... Now he will stay on but just may not develop as expected...

This series has been a disaster. Losing to Zimbabwe is never an option and wins against tougher opposition don't really matter much if we can't comfortably stamp our authority over lower ranked teams. It doesn't matter this was in Zimbabwe - the fact remains that we batted like a bunch of sissies. In an ideal situation, the captain and coaches would lose their jobs. But this isn't an ideal situation and unfortunately we don't have better options. I see why the BCB will suck it up, give him a raise or a dozen goats or whatever it is that he wants. I can see why feels terrible too - losing to Zimbabwe is shameful.

You can't select a captain just based on availability for the national team. What leadership skills have they exhibited in the past at the domestic level? Somebody who was never a captain at the age-group levels or domestic leagues should not be selected as a national team captain just because they are the only available option who is a permanent fixture for the national team.
Mushy is our only option as skipper RIGHT NOW. Somebody else can be groomed as his replacement, but until that replacement is ready, Mushy should stay as the captain. The BCB will ensure that this happens.

It's a knee jerk reaction. We don't have any other option at the moment. He's the best man for the job. Hopefully when he comes back to Bangladesh and the dust settles BCB will convince him to stay on.

Mushy wants to step down because he views the series loss against Zimbabwe as unacceptable as it should be. Fair enough but there's only one problem- there's no one there who can replace him as captain. Shakib is not an option because we lost to Zim under him as well and Nasir is too inexperienced. The rest of the players don't count. Also, there's not much time for a new captain to get accustomed to the job.
So, in the end I reckon Mushy will be asked to continue by BCB and I hope he agrees for the sake of the team. However, I'm not a fan of Mushy's captaincy by any means as his on field captaincy leaves much to be desired.

His heart is in the right place as it is unacceptable to loose to Zimbabwe at this stage, so he's taking responsibility and stepping down. But his head is not in the right place because he shud know better that the team is getting better on all phases under him, this is just a bad series and lastly there is NOBODY else who can replace him....

A smart decision - very cunning!
I think people here in BC and the fans all over are getting emotional......not Mushy.
Mushy is smart enough to know that he will be criticized and grilled for the loss in Zim. Instead of letting BCB entertain the idea of replacing him as captain, he decided to quit. He knows it's better to be convinced by BCB to renew his captaincy than staying as captain because of lack of replacements. If Mushy really gets reinstated by BCB it will be loner than his original tenure and his authority over the team will be all the more stronger. Don't worry guys.....he'll remain as BD captain.
Good move Mushy......shows a lot of smart thinking.

I think he should withdraw this decision. But if he does not, it should be anyone else but shakib. Batting, bowling and captaincy becomes too much for him, as it was shown before. I don't see any other good choice for captain. None. Nasir? As weird as it may sound, that seems like the only viable solution.

While I am very critical of his tactical and strategic actions, there is no one else to take up the job. Ash was good, but he should not even be in the ODI team. The only team where I am fully comfortable with him is in the T20.

I dont think hes happy with the team selection or selectors. He wasnt happy with shahadat getting picked in the west indies series. He probably wants more say, in who gets selected.;

I was going to post this. Then I noticed your comment.
Exactly my sentiments.
Rather than being criticized for the loss, he has turned the table which will make BCB beg him to stay. He would accept eventually, but not before laying his own terms and conditions, gaining a stronger hold on the team and strengthening his influence over the decision making process.
If they dont let him, they are free to chose whoever they deem fit for the job.
At this moment, there are absolutely none and Mushy knows that.
Well played Captain !

I respect Mush for his decision. He has brains and knows that the team let us - the fans down and he was in charge.
Mush has been the most successful out of any Captain we have ever had. All the ones before him could not perform and captain both at the same time and their performances suffered. eg. Bashar who used to avergae 70/75 in almost every match, Ashraful who became a Eidi, Shakib .. 2003 WC , etc.
Only problems Mush had was his love for SRK , field settings , balling order issues and also not using aprt-timers like Ash or totally forgetting about a regular baller
