Dream Commentary Teams
Right, your dream commentary team has to have six commentators, one of them being the anchor.
Heres mine :

Ravi Shastri (Anchor)
Geoffrey Boycott
Richie Benaud
David Lloyd
Mark Taylor
Michael Holding
My favourite commentary team of all time was the TMS team of the 80's and early 90's with Brian Johnston, Henry Blofeld, Don Mosey, Fred Trueman, Trevor Bailey and Christopher Martin-Jenkins.
BTW Rob, is Robert Martin-Jenkins of Sussex CMJ's son?

I think there shouldn't be a specific commentary team for all cricket matches. A commentary team should always include commentators from the participating teams. Thats why I likes sky sports teams as they had a Bangladeshi and ofcourse English commentators and not just english like the channel 4 team.

The Channel 4 has Richie Benaud as a regular, he isn't English.
C4 usually get a foreign commentator. For New Zealand games where they get Ian Smith, for India games they get Ravi Shastri, for Pakistan games they get Imran Khan, for Australia they call in Slater, for WI games they have Ian Bishop.

I agree with his opinion. But if we are to pick 6 my favorite will be:
Ravi Shashtri (although sometimes comments silly, but enjoyable)
Michael Holding (interesting to hear)
Rameez Raja (I like this his use of words like stick for a bat! )
Athar Ali Khan (He must be there for a Bangladesh match, otherwise even its good to hear the voice of a fellow countymen)
Geoffrey Boycott (I was upset by his comments against BD, but he is fun to hear)
Wasim AKram (somebody recent, aalthough he praises India too much!)

I can understand you being upset.
His comments about your batting techniques were very good I thought, and my no means lies.
But I think what upset you was the "I'd be running out to get a bat against this bowling", "I'd of strangled a nightwatchmen to get out against this bowling before him".
I thought the comments were quite funny however.

also, Boycott is fair and can be most unkind to england...
"england need to practice batting, bowling and fielding"...this was richie Benaus'd comments but boycott made it famous. last time he mentioned it during the mini world cup in Kenya where england scored 5 or 6 in the first 8/9 overs against south africa..
some of his classic.
****Robin Singh as number 6... " he is a nice guy.."( this may come back to us very soon as many of us are thinking to play non-batsman at number 6..... some of these people also thought this way against the test..)
**** Hoturasingh's medum pace.." i do not rate him at all.."

mwrkhan,
Mate, this is comparing apple to orange..it seems people are talking about TV commentary.. likes of Shastry/Holding and other starters ( no disrespect but please they have not even been around for 10 years..)can not be compared with the radio comentry...
if it is TV commentary then it is a must to have Arlott, Boycott, Chappell, Benaud and David Loyd.. ...there is no significant difference among others..
**** "Man who surprised himself...." John Arlott's famous comment about Massey. ..Lords 72.
*** borrowing from Boycott: i do not even rate Rameez Raja. as acommentator ( nor as atest batsman, but that is another issue..)

I think you should take that Richie Benaud out of your list as he talks crap like changing the pitch length from 22 yards to 26 yards.
Let's hope Harmison & co can make him repeat those words...
