Closest Worldcup ?

For my money this would be the closest WorldCup .

With Eng beating the Aussies things now seem to be more open.We have the Pak beating the SA comprehensively on one day , only to be beaten by 10 wics the next match .The same goes with India ,WI and SL .Or is it time for some suprises like last time when Kenya creeped into the Semi Finals...is it BD's turn this time to spring up some suprises .

It sure promises to be a close World Cup.

Bd faces an up hill battle facing Ind and SL in their group. No way we can beat SL, the eventual champion. If there is any surprises BD can provide that would be in their first match against India although I doubt.

Most likely Bd players will watch most of the matches from their comfy couch.

It will be close. I just want BD to beat India and go to 2nd stage.

Closest for a long time, the Super 8 stage should see some awesome matches.

The group stages will be too predictable though, only Bangladesh realistically could cause an upset, and even they have a mountain to climb. The cricket world needs another 3-4 countries that can compete at ODI level, that way the whole tournament would be competitive from start to finish.

akabir, it was based on rankings at some time in 2005...

BD has as good a chance as they ever had, form means nothing. just one good day out of 2 days is all we need...one good day

The first match is against India...and that's when all the hype will be. If it doesn't turn out all that great, just don't even bother watching the match with SL. We'll loose that by huge margin.

A lot of you will laugh at me but I get this uncanny feeling about Ganguly and India.

A few months before the 1983 World Cup Mohinder Amarnath was reacalled to the Indian side after about a year. He responded with a century in his come back test and followed it up with a few more bright performances. Then came the World Cup and among the major contributors with both bat and ball was Amarnath. You all know what happened. Maybe its Ganguly's turn? who knows?

england is in the easiest group, they will be facing new zealand, canada and kenya. and we are in the toughest

I would say then we could have a better chance to move to the 2nd round. Australia was beaten by 10 wickets by New Zeland yesterday! And we all know against us how Australia becomes the underdog!!?

ganguli seems to be very determined after his comeback. but even without him indian team has a lot of potential and got quite a few match winners, past and present. their problem is they never play as a team and just as individuals. also too much money from commercials have spoiled them i think.

Be it Australia, Sri Lanka, India, it does not matter. All we need is one of those very rare Ashrafull magic day.

Without that, this will be another short WC for us.

kothai asen, kenya smoked everyone (with few exceptions) in WCL D-1 just a couple weeks ago.

Yes. It should be a very close WC. Though Australia still remains the favorite, the teams behind them have closed the gap. I still think Aussies are the best one day outfit, provided they have a healthy Symonds and Lee along with Ponting, Hussey, Gilchrist ( when in form ), Mc Grath. Right behind them, five teams are on par, as they can beat anyone among them on any given day. They are NZ, SA, Ind, SL and Pak ( can't ever count them out in one dayers ). I think SL is a real dark horse this time. England are a notch below ( not too far ) and on par with WI. We are after that. We used to be far behind. We still are behind, but not as far. Upsets happen in every WC and I won't be surprised if we manage to pull one. This time around, the pressure for SL and Ind to beat us may actually work as an advantage for us. We have to plan very carefully against those two teams and fight with everything we got with our best ability.

Yup.. Kenya is still a good team..its just that Bangladesh has became a "KENYA-EATER" recently. Watever group we are in..doesnt matter..we need 2 GOOD DAYS..and we are going through from the group stage! And actually i see a better chance against SL than India..i mean WHY NOT? Luck is all we need.
