Thumbs up Congratulations Barrister Kumar Chokshanada Sangakkara!

Indeed a joy for the eyes to behold. It was like watching a highly educated man toy with a bunch of dudes as they enrolled back in 5th grade after having their testicles removed.

An amazingly fitting feat for a great batsman.

Some fun facts courtesy of this.

  • Kumar Sangakkara hit his first triple-century and his highest score in Tests, bettering his 287, against South Africa in Colombo in 2006. Sangakkara has scored 1711 runs against Bangladesh - the highest by any batsman against the team in Tests - at 95.05 from 20 innings.
  • Sangakkara's 319 was his sixth century against Bangladesh and his third score of 200 or more runs against them. He also leads the list of century makers against Bangladesh in Tests. Mahela Jayawardene and Sachin Tendulkar are next in this list with five hundreds each.
  • Sangakkara has now hit nine scores of 200 or more in Tests, equaling Brian Lara in the list of batsmen with most 200-plus scores in Tests. Don Bradman leads this list with 12 such scores. Including this innings, Sangakkara has hit four scores of 200 or more in away Tests. Don Bradman, Wally Hammond and Brian Lara, who all have hit five such scores each in their Test careers, are the only batsmen ahead of Sangakkara. Graeme Smith is the other batsman with four 200-plus scores in away Tests.
  • When on 201, Sangakkara went past Steve Waugh to become the ninth-highest run scorer in Tests. Sangakkara also completed 11000 Test runs when he reached 273 with a four off Sohag Gazi. He is the ninth batsman to score 11000 or more Test runs and the fastest batsman, in terms of number of innings taken, to do so.
  • Sangakkara's 319 in this innings is now the highest individual score against Bangladesh in Tests, beating Ramnaresh Sarwan's unbeaten 261 against them in Kingston in 2004.

A master-class innings. A magnificent player.

Congrats Sangakkara

He's such a class batsman. Even though he managed to pile it up against us, you have to admire his ability as a batsman. He virtually gave up no chance to get himself out. The concentration he has is unbelievable. If our batsmen think their hot shots, they should look at Sanga and see how much ways they still have to go before proving themselves at the Test level.

This guy was a role model for me as a cricketer from my childhood and now being a law student still can't look for a better inspiration than him. Such determination to improve his game everyday and the utter desire to learn from his mistakes is what makes him so special. He was simply gutted with himself when he got out with a false shot in the 1st test and what a way to rectify that in such a short period of time, speaks volume of his greatness.

Great batsman and an even more admirable spokesperson of the field. But his record in Australia is the one thing that puts him below Lara and Tendu in my rating.

his 192 was awesome, got robbed though, wasn't out so could have been a double ton but what's wrong with his record in australia? averages 60.33. england, india, SA and WI are where his record is at it's weakest. only averaging 30.58 in england from 9 matches, then in WI it's 34 and he hasn't scored a ton there either (has in england), then SA 35.75 and india 36.5.

it's tough to compare their records in australia because sangakkara has only played 5 matches there, lara and tendu have played 19 and 20 matches respectively in australia. tendu averages 53 odd with 6 tons and 7 half tons with lara averaging almost 42 with 4 tons and 4 half tons. sanga's 60.33 includes 1 ton and 5 half tons.

i think england and south africa are the main differences as they're the toughest places along with australia for a batsman (tough conditions coupled with quality bowling). in both england and SA lara and tendulkar average 40 or 50 plus whereas sanga is at 30 and 35. he has a better record than both in australia but as i said, he's played quite a few less matches there making it tough to compare.
