Default Pitch at Chittagong Divisional Stadium

Only 3 Tests have been played here, Our Record is 1 spineless/lucky Draw, 1 Choked away Test and 1 Humiliating Innings defeat. 3 Tests three really different results from our bowlers. From the India test the pitch seemed really fair ... you gotta put your head down and grind apart from Tendulkar and another scored a 100 too the rest of Indian Batsmen had trouble. The Australia Test we threw our Wickets away but it was Flat Track I could of scored runs there ... Rafique Smashed Warne all over Chittagong that 5th day and some night watch batsmen scored a 201*. Sri Lanka Test Murali effect but Rajib bowled really well and Ash Smashed a 136 in the 1st Innings and than we had typical Day 3.

I don't think we'll ever have another pitch like the one for the Aus Test, so I say 2 true spinners this pitch will turn on day 3/4/5 from the Lanka test (Aus Test discarded from discussion). Rajib Knows how to get reverse swing now I know Wasim gave tips to Rajib/Rasel for that tour. I think if they out there heads down we should be able to be really competitive in this match as well. If we put runs on the Board we will get Wickets regularly

Sri Lanka Test
Australia Test
India test

i dont trust our curators...they will say one thing, and it will be another...we will need one thing, and it will be the opposite.

at least when rafique retires, he will make the right pitch, whether its a bouncy track or a spinning dust bowl.

As far as I can remember, Chittagong pitch was said to be a batting pitch for the 1st 2 days. 3rd day would still be favourable for batting with a little turn starting to come up. From 3rd day onward bowlers will have a good day (with better bounce than Mirpur).

Therefore, any team winning the toss should bat first in order to put pressure on the team batting second. However, whoever bats first should continue to do that till Session 3 of 2nd day. I think even if BD wins the toss they wouldn't be able to do that. So winning the toss probably is not vital for Bangladesh in this match.

as far as rajib getting reverse swing...he mentioned it in his interview, so he knows that he is doing it. also he got the ball to reverse in both innings.

does anyone know when he learned it? seems he reversed as early as 2006 but not consistently. consistent reverse is hard to get apparently, depends on many factors outside of bowler skill. so is it true that wasim taught him?

if so, then rajib should teach Mash ASAP.

Same here. That Bodi is a LOSER. His words and pitch behavior never matches.

We don't know how many years we will have to wait to see Rafiq as our curator.

Asad, reverse swing is also a function of wrist position and backward spin. Mash tends to bowl cutters which means he tends to roll his fingers down the front of the ball. Plus he prefers a back of good, length. This is why he rarely gets much swing unless it's a brand new cherry. Rajib bowls a much fuller length (when he's not banging it in short) and slides his fingers down the back. So he was always more likely to swing it.

At least that's my take on it from watching on the telly.

The Pitch, the Toss, the Menu, NONE of these things matter when our batsmen choose to give their wickets away.

And they have been doing this for the last 7 years - how long do we have to wait more ?????

You are absolutely correct. Mash is very good with the new ball in both versions of the game. More so with the new white ball. He does indeed like to bowl the short of good length and struggles when the ball is old. He can get good outswingers with the new ball to the right hand batsmen and has the ability to cut back in as well. However, with the old ball, he is just another above average intl bowler. That is why he is also a very average death over bowler in ODI's. You have to bowl full and at the stumps- yorker length. He ends up with full tosses or too short instead. Specially in test matches, and more so at home or anywhere in the sub-continent, you have to have the ability to reverse the older ball if you want wkts. He can't do it. That's why our premier fast bowler doesn't have a 5 fer in tests yet! He also struggles with his line against lefties. He needs a lot of work.

Sometimes even 250 might not be possible - it could be 188
However, some individual players' personal records are not too bad on this pitch even against the int'l opponents. The current grooming approach by Siddons and a little improvement in batting (session by session) should give a hundred to one of our guys atleast - "she ashai badhi khelaghor".

Thanks. The last liners say : "
It's also general practice for sides winning the toss to make the most of the batsmen-friendly conditions on the first two days, and avoid batting fourth on a deteriorating surface."

This validates the msg#3 on this thread.

Well the surface at Chittagong has always been pretty decent for batting, which isn't necessarily a good thing for us. To be able to compete with teams like South Africa, we need slow and low surfaces that form cracks larger than the gap between Bashar uncle's bat and pad so that our bowlers can make up for the lack of runs on the board and bundle them out below or close to whatever our batsmen manage to put up.

well i think that also comes down to somewhat of a luck factor. mash does have four 4 wicket hauls in tests, and chance would dictate that he'll get a 5er soon enough (when in form).

on the other hand, rajib has had two four wicket hauls and two 5 fers as well. as well as the fact that he strikes 20 balls sooner per wicket than mash does. and is average is now lower. so i think its safe to say that mash is now the number 2 pacer in our side in both versions. rajib is premier in tests, and rasel in ODIs and T20Is

When our curators make batting pitch, we always lose the toss, and our opponents score 500+ batting first. Had we not won the toss of the test that we won against Zimbo, I wonder whether we had achieved that win. Still batting second, Zimbo scored 300+. But when we bat second against good opponents, we hardly cross 200, even in batting track. Anyone can go over the history of MA Aziz stadium, which had a batting track and where we played most of our chittagong tests.

If Ash loses the toss, SA will send them in to bat first anyhow. BD has a record of not scoring runs in the first innings, SA know this, in fact all the test teams know this.

Hope that they can do better here and score 250+.
