Anyhow, wish I could have seen the innings. I have always been a great fan of Lara (up until now I guess), and was really rooting for a good WI-ENG series.

I saw the innings today. a master class! not as much in control as he was in his 375, on a batting pitch that is identical to the one he scored his 375 on (according to the man himself!), but more than enough! some superb strokes 330 degrees around his stumps!

Now, the question is which one of the two choices is more desirable to regain some glory for WI (asuming Lara continues to bat well on the 3rd morning):

a. To put win first and declare, if necessary, before Lara's 381.

b. To put Lara's 381 first and only then if possible, to go for win.

Lara will try to kill 2 birds with a stone.
But the win is more important. After all, Lara's shaky reputation as a captain has to be salvaged. The best he can do for West Indies cricket is to help rebuild a team which is in a sorry state. A very sorry state in comparison to its illustrious history.

my analysis is as follows. The wicket seems too docile for either side to bowl each other out. Windies simply don't have the bowling power to force the issue on such a pitch. I don't see anything but a draw in this match barring an absolute miracle. In such circumstances, a Lara record may restore more faith for the fans and for Windies cricket in general than a dull draw. So I would say go for the record. Besides he shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to get the record if he chooses to do so. Keeping England in the heat for a couple of hours more may not be such a bad idea after all.

Nobody's going to win this match. Two years ago when India played here, only two innings were finished, with well over a thousand runs scored in total

The chances for a draw is already pretty high on a pitch where no type of bowlers got any respect, and Lara's teammates have also done considerably well. In this series the WI pacers have been called "Pint Size" ineffective ones. It has been said that success of the English pacers came from their height, they were able to bang the bounce off the pitch. I mean, this pitch must be without any life. This may be Lara's last chance at reestablishing the record also. I say go for it.

Lara said himself that it's a batsman's track so they need to capitilise and get a BIG score. He says they need at least 700 and might even look for another 200 runs today. Meaning so long as Lara doesn't get out he will break the record. Hayden will only get 6 months of glory! Pity really.

Take no offence...but i'd suggest Hayden to start playing Rugby Union instead. His brutal method of playing a sport would be an instant success.

It's 638/5 on stump and no sign of declaring the innings yet which only means Lara is set to make the world record. Since a win or draw doesn't make any difference as it is already 3-0 for England, Lara does the right thing to keep batting to cross 381. Great going, prince of Carribean!
