As we are trying to punish war criminals, we are ignoring its modern day equivalent in Pilkhana massacre. This is indeed very sad!

I'm afraid the real culprits would never be brought to justice.

What we will witness is the farce that is the current BDR trial.
Just an eye wash.

Mutiny at Pilkhana

27 stand trial in fetter, civil dress

Julfikar Ali Manik
Twenty-seven among 675 accused of the 44 Rifle Battalion were in particular focus as they were hauled before the BDR Special Court-5 yesterday in shackles and civvies.
The rest were handcuffed and in uniform in the dock at the Darbar Hall of Bangladesh Rifles headquarters in Pilkhana where the bloody mutiny broke out on February 25 last year.
This was the first incident of producing the accused in fetters before the BDR court set up to hold trial for mutiny charges. Of the 27, sepoy Salim Reza drew special attention as he played a leading role during the carnage.
Everyone's focus was trained on Salim on the first day of the trial on Monday when the complainant and prosecutor of the case narrated his leading role.
Salim, a bearded young man without mustache, was wearing a round white cap usually used in prayers, maroon fatua and lungi. Like him the twenty-six others were in civil dresses wearing either shirt or T-shirt and lungi or pants. Some of them also started to keep beard since their imprisonment last year.

BDR Director General Maj Gen M Mainul Islam, who is the president of the three-member court, ordered during Monday's proceedings to bring them in civil dresses and fetters.
Salim, who ordered slain BDR DG Shakil Ahmed and other officers to go out from the Darbar Hall on February 25 saying "go one by one" before they were shot to death, was eager to speak to journalists yesterday.
While entering Darbar Hall, he repeatedly told the newspersons, "I committed the mutiny, I am a mutineer. But it should not so happen that we are tried by the victims [army officers]; I want trial in the civil court."
He was wearing an angry expression in the face and was trying to make the same allegations against the slain army officers regarding the "Dal Bhat" project.
He was also claiming he himself did not kill any officer during the mutiny.
But the court of inquiry of the paramilitary force suspects these 27 were involved not only in the mutiny but also in murders and other grievous offences.
However, they will be tried in the civil court for committing murders and other grievous offences.
But as they are also accused in the case for mutiny, they are being tried by the BDR courts. The Special Court-5 asked the jail authorities to send the 27 in fetters to ensure security of the court.
Lt Col Kazi Aniruddha, prosecutor of the mutiny case, told The Daily Star, "The 27 were produced in fetters as per our requirement. We wanted this to ensure security of the court apprehending that they might try to be unruly again in the same place [Darbar Hall] where they started the mutiny.
"According to the information of the court of inquiry, we have evidence that the twenty-seven committed grievous offences during the two-day mutiny," said prosecutor Aniruddha.
The prosecutor in his yesterday's submission briefly described the specific charges of mutiny against the accused.
He said Salim Reza in the morning of February 25 divided his followers into two groups who looted the arsenal.
After taking arms from the arsenal, sepoys Moin of 13 Battalion and Kajal Ali of 44 Battalion went to Darbar Hall at 9:25am to trigger the mutiny.
Armed sepoys Salim, Kajal, Altaf and others soon took control of Darbar Hall and its surrounding areas, Aniruddha added.
Sepoys Salim, Kajal, Habibur Rahman, Jasim Mallik, Rafiqul Islam and Obaidul broke into slain DG Shakil Ahmed's residence where DG's wife and other members were living.
The sepoys committed heinous offences at the DG's house including committing torture, ransacking, looting and arson.
After the prosecutor's submission the court fixed November 1 for hearing on charge framing. Two other members of the court are Lt Col Golam Rabbani and Maj Sayed Hasan Taposh.
The court asked all the accused to appear in the next day's proceedings at 10:00am in the same get-up they had during the mutiny.

Just noticed this names and between the two news report don't jive ... Amar Journagists!

Quote:
And then
Quote:
"Sepoys Salim, Kajal, Habibur Rahman, Jasim Mallik, Rafiqul Islam and Obaidul broke into slain DG Shakil Ahmed's residence where DG's wife and other members were living."
...from Julfikar Ali Manik's report from DailyStar!!

Maybe Kajal and Tajul the same person, or a human error, mistake!

Anyway, who is this D.A.D. Nasir?
Quote:
And I want to know WHY he asked them to do it...what was the motive and benifit from this? Of course these 27+ the others who ran the carnage, didn't they think of consequences? Murdering so many Army Officers, raping, torturing, mutilating with such hatred? What were they told? Where does this hate come from?

I hope and pray and I want to believe that BAL and BNP leaderships/politicians were not behind this carnage as I wonder why Army would be so quiet and calm if they did.

I like to believe it is done by these bastard Murderers, rapists Salim, Kajal, Habibur Rahman, Jasim Mallik, Rafiqul Islam, Obaidul, D.A.D. Nasir etc. are the main culprits/criminals behind it, then I wonder how weak is our Militery Intiligence, I want to know how come Army Intel, RAB intel, combined military intel, DGFI, NSI didn't know nothing about it or sensed nothing? What have they been doing? How can we have this growing within our Border Patrol Para-Military Force for over 24 months within such small country and so much dense population and our intel could not pick up a straw? I mean if we were large and remote and thin population, I can understand, what is the depth, basic fundamental human intel within our own country, let alone in another country or other country's military, are we that stupid, low level, unequiped (and this is not even about money and technology or armament) and inept as a Republic? I, we want to know!

I like to know, if we are defineltely not the same people that once fought for this country and the people? Have we self castrated ourselves so badly and deeply and just breathing as a bunch of (150 mills+ to be exact) living deads, zombies? Our ancestors are tossing and turning underground right at this moment.

I know a person of Awami League. Here's what they say:

1. Bangladesh does not need army. Who will attack bangladesh.
2. Bangladesh and pakistan should not have been created. They should have been part of India.
3. Bangladesh can't have army but India can. Because, India is a great country
4. Bangladesh army has done injustice over the people in hill tracks.
5. What india is doing in Kashmir is justifiable because kashmir is part of india.

This is very important. Thank you my dearest Kabir bhaiya! I have the uttermost respect for you for this!

We must recognize and admit the wrongdoing done by us when we criticize others. It is a very very painful truth that the Tribal people of Hill Tracts were treated badly by the Bnagldesh political orders, I am very sorry that Bangladesh Army executed those orders and those responsible for those rape/torture/murders and burning of their villages should be brought to justice, no doubt, but the political orders from the nation's political root where those orders came from, should be prosecuted even more and first!! They are more responsible. All three of them, Awami league, BNP and Jatiya Party.

We must understand that the law should be equal for everyone, and everyone is made equal, all living beings are made with equal rights by the supreme being, the Almighty (I should stick to human beings in this case, as bringing in all living beings into this coversation is too much here) that is the ultimate Nirvana, enlightenment. We cannot bitch and scream at Israel (west bank), Pakistan (genocide in Bangladesh), U S of A (Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanisthan and many more), Russia/Soviet (Chechnya, Georgia, Afghanisthan), China (for human rights and Tibet), and Britain (colonial), France (colonial), Germany (Nazi party), Dutch (colonial), Spain (the Whole Americas/colonial), Italy (Mousolini, spell), Japan, Serbia (Bosnian and Croat slaughter), Turkey (Armenian genocide) and on and on when we ourselves deny or ignore the truth about our own selves and just pretend to hide our own blood soaked hands!!!

My prayers for the deceased ones. I knew three.

My prayers also goes for the Imam of Pilkhana mosque. He died couple of days after the massacre. It is understood that he saw the whole event unfold. Liability to some (master minders). I don't want Justice any more. I do not want the masterminds to be exposed. I want them to face the Lord with blood in their hands. That punishment is ever lasting and sure to touch them.

I don't mean to wake this thread up from sleeping...but the 3 years anniversey coming in a couple of weeks and I strongly strongly feel that I won't rest in peace until I remind us about it every year, what happenned? Where are we? I must remind ourselves that those 57 murdered Army officers, our breavest sons of the country fell to these bunch of murdering cowards and what kind of justice the nation, the 57murdered officers spirits + their murdered/raped/tortured family members spirits and the left alive relatives and family members get? DID WE GET TRUE JUSTICE? Will we? When?

Or did we already forget them (the victims)?

BDR Massacre: Killers fleeing to Saudi Arabia

Manabzamin, four killer Bangladesh Riffles [BDR] men fled the country on March 2, 2009 by Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight number BG-049 to Saudi Arabia.

With the help of a very influential quarter in the government, not only the flight was delayed for two hours, but the killer BDR men were boarded on the aircraft through a special passage of the boarding bridge, minutes before the flight.

Members of the intelligence agencies arrested another BDR troop named Rafiqul Islam, when he was also attempting to flee to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday. Rafiqul was trying to leave the country by Saudia, Saudi Arabian Airlines flight number SB-801 in the noon.

It is further learnt that, some influential quarters managed safe exit of these killers to a number of foreign destination right after the brutal massacre ended at the Bangladesh Riffles headquarters. Passports and visas of a number of killers were arranged in advanced prior to staging of the brutal massacre. Photographs and other details of the fugitives will also be put online on the websites of Rapid Action Battalion and Bangladesh Police, a source said.

Meanwhile, people in the know have been requested to inform the Army Headquarters control room, apart from the nearest police station, about the runaway BDR rebels from the Bangladesh Rifles headquarters and different camps.

"Confidentiality of the informers will be protected," said an ISPR release issuing the public notice on Wednesday when a countrywide drive code-named 'operation rebel hunt' for rounding up the mutineers is already underway.

The contact numbers of the Army Headquarters control room are: [880-2] 8712197, [880] 01713333 256.

It is further learnt that investigating agencies are trying to publish the photographs of the absconding BDR men and suspected killers.

US Federal Bureau of Investigation [FBI] has agreed to help Bangladesh in forensic investigation into the BDR carnage.

Acting Deputy State Department spokesman Gordon Duguid told a regular press briefing in Washington Tuesday that they have received a request from the Bangladesh government for the FBI help in forensic investigation.

"I believe the FBI has agreed to do that," Duguid told a correspondent. He, however, could not give further details about when, where and how the FBI will work.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sought the FBI assistance during telephone conversation with US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia Richard Boucher on March 1. Boucher spoke on behalf of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and offered the US assistance.

In another development, the Bogra unit of RAB-12 arrested Azizar Rahman Nannu, father of rebel BDR soldier Abdur Rahman Nilu, and seized goods worth TK 1.2 million including TK 300,000 in cash, ornaments and other valuables which were robbed from the officers' residences in the BDR headquarters. RAB arrested him, after receiving secret information, at Chalitabari and seized the valuables and money which were buried.

Nilu on February 26 called in his father Nannu, 60, to his rented house at Hazaribagh in Dhaka and handed over TK 300,000 in cash, gold ornaments, a Siemens mobile set, a wrist watch and a bottle of shampoo, said RAB sources.

A team of RAB-12, led by Major Abu Nasar Mohammad Mostafa, conducted a drive at Bidupara village of Lahiripara union at 4am on Wednesday after getting secret information. Nannu was nabbed in Chalitabari, a nearby village.

Nannu confessed the truth during primary interrogation. Acting on the information provided by him, the team recovered a sack full of valuables and money that was buried in a rice-field at Chalitabari, said sources.

Nannu, said his son on Saturday called him to his house at Hazaribagh and gave him the sack in the presence of another soldier, Jahangir, and told hip to keep it carefully. He, however, claimed he did not know anything about the things inside the sack.

Major Mostafa said that Nannu knew about the money. He will be sent to the BDR headquarters as the incident took place there. He also informed reporters that the six bundles of TK 500 notes were withdrawn on February 10 from the Trust Bank's principal branch and Sonali Bank of Dhaka.

Meanwhile, according to reports, it was learnt that, during the 2-day long massacre inside the BDR headquarters, at least 500 Arges grenades and a large number of arms and ammunitions disappeared from the place of occurance. Security experts fear that disappreared grenades and arms would remain as a potential threat to country's law and order situation.

The police on Wednesday recovered two live grenades from a toilet of outpatient department of Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

In another incident, grenade explosion on the premises of Chapainawabganj police station left a police inspector's son dead and two other children injured on Wednesday noon.

The police said three children, two of them sons of two assistant sub inspectors, were injured as a bomb went off inside the boundary of the police station in the district headquarters at about 12:45pm.

'A bomb exploded with a big bang when the children were playing behind the police barracks,' said a police officer. The injured — Al Amin, 10, son of ASI [Assistant Sub Inspector] Ataur Rahman, Mamun, 7, son of ASI Rafique, and Mehedi, 10, son of cook of thana mess Khodeza — were taken to Sadar Hospital. They were shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital with critical condition. Al Amin died at RMCH at about 6:30 pm on Wednesday, the sources said.

Political and defense analysts in Bangladesh believe it is of crucial importance in the interest of the nation that the February 25-26 massacre by troops against officers at the Bangladesh Rifles headquarters in the capital Dhaka and the concomitant carnage are thoroughly investigated, and the perpetrators and their instigators, if any, identified, arrested, prosecuted and punished. Such actions are needed to put all Bangladesh defense forces, military and paramilitary, on a stronger footing, which is very important for a nation state to thrive on in the international state system.

What I dont understand is why the colleagues of the slain army officers are taking it lying down. If all the army officers decide that they want to get justice no government can stop them. The army intelligence should go after all the influential people involved in this and take them out in vigilante fashion if needed. Government beshi jhamela korle they should take over the government. I too cant forget the fact that so many officers were murdered in one day. it will take a long time for the army to fill this vacuum.
