BCB committee suggests better structured domestic season
BCB committee suggests better structured domestic season
ESPNcricinfo staff
August 1, 2012
The cricket operations committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has suggested that the domestic first-class competition, the National Cricket League (NCL), be completed before the commencement limited-overs tournaments in the 2012-13 season. A final decision on the recommendation will be taken a board meeting on August 6.
The 2012-13 domestic calendar, for the main local competitions, looks quite structured at this early stage of discussion: The first-class competition has been scheduled to begin in early October, running till mid-January, after which the cricketers will take a break and then play the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) from mid-February. The one-day Dhaka Premier League (DPL) tournament is slated to begin in March and run till May.
"The committee has recommended that after completing the NCL, there will be the BPL and the DPL. If the national cricketers are not available during the one-day competition, we will not be using the players' pool," the BCB spokesman, Jalal Yunus, said on Wednesday.
The cancellation of the players' pool would mean that the DPL clubs are no longer bound to pick three current national cricketers each, as they won't be available during the time - Bangladesh are scheduled to tour Sri Lanka in March and Zimbabwe in April next year.
The 2011-12 domestic calendar took on a disorganised air, after the BCB's decision to stop the NCL, which had begun in October, with just one match remaining in its second round. The DPL then began, only to be interrupted by the BPL in February. Though the NCL was eventually completed in April, the DPL dispute added to the scheduling confusion. The season ended in June, the longest it has run.
A proposal for a franchise-based four-day domestic competition will also be discussed at the meeting on August 6. Currently, negotiations with various companies interested in buying franchises for the proposed tournament are on.

Good suggestions. They are recommending better structure where NCL is followed by BPL and DPL. Franchises might be introduced.

They are still hopeful about BPL? Good to know.

They always and every year plan lot of things but nothing is introduced at last. Every years they says that they will try to make atractive and competative first class competition. But never get actualised. So there is no hope untill it comes true.

yeah every year they come out saying this is how we will improve the domestic structure but they never do it. however i'm a bit intrigued by the idea of franchises for FC cricket, wouldn't that be a world first? could be what works for BD.....as far as BPL goes they have to work their tails off to convince people they are legit and won't do what they did with the payments in the first edition. in regards to DPL, national team duties should always come first, the franchises/teams should be informed of this by the BCB and should be in the contracts, and the teams shouldn't complain, they should be happy when the national teamers can play not whinge when they can't, it gives opporunity to other players who wouldn't get an opportunity and helps develop BD cricket in a better way.

I would rather go as 'wait and see.' If they can implement we're ready to thank them otherwise nothing to say now.

This is just funny. They said domestic with better structure. But they did not mention what the special they will do this year? So we ll see nothing new. But i just beg few points to them:
1. Please increase the number of F C matches.
2. Make two groups and restart the home and away format.

In our last get together i had a scope to meet with Rabid Imam. I asked him about restarting of home and away format. He said ground scarcity. It looked ridiculous to me.
Make two groups from 8 teams. 4 matches at a time need 4 stadiums and we have 6(including sylhet). So how come ground scarcity causing problem to restart the home and away format?

If you really want a true home and away system, you can't have the same stadium play home to two teams or you end up having leagues limited to cities with existing stadium. Of course that's still a start.

Simple solution.
Metro should get Mirpur and Dhaka Division should get Fatullah
