Default Giles a joke!

I just read a Terry Alderman report that he thought of Ashley Giles to be a joke and that he gets wickets bowling negatively to the batsmen.
I personally think Giles doesn't even deserve to play county cricket, let alone Tests and ODIs.
I remember an incident during Eng-Ind series, with Nas at the helm, where he was bowling negatively against Sachin and reduced the opposition's scoring rate and ultimately got Sachin out of frustration and boredom. Nas and Giles's explanation was- they were using the rough outside the leg stump. My reaction was "[censored]"!!!
But yes, I have to agree 110% with what Terry said. In fact i'm going to put him as one of the most overrated cricketer in another thread.

What do you guys think about him?

I don't mind to have a Giles in our team who can stop opponents to score 5 per over in tests and get Tendulkar wicket.

This is called "playing within your limitations". If Giles cannot turn the ball and if bowling negatively is the only way to get batsmen out then why not? It looks ugly but I would rather slow down the run rate and peg back one end of the wicket than let the batsmen score freely. Like sportsfanbd I would not mind having someone like Giles in our team.

If these old Aussie cricketers think that these comments are getting under the skin of the England players then they are badly mistaken, the England team isn't made up of muppets as they may like to think.

The fact of the matter is that these past players are just making fools out of themselves and sound very uninformed. CricInfo should know better than to publish such silly remarks.

Giles doesn't bowl negatively anymore, he still bowls a leg stump line but not a wide leg stump line like he did when Nasser Hussain was captain, Vaughan gives him attacking fields to bowl to and now bowls straighter.

The fact of the matter is that it is hard to nuture spinners in England. Whenever Giles goes to the subcontinent he picks up lots of wickets, he has been far more successful than Warne in India, and whenever he isn't in the subcontinet he bowls economically most of the time.

I am happy with Ashley Giles bowling, he is the best we have and does his job admirably and well.

Giles' batting is also a very important part in Englands batting line up. He consistently makes scores of 30-50 batting at number 8 these days, and is more than capable of converting those into hundreds, I think he has 3 first class hundreds and 1 limited overs hundreds, that limted overs hundred was made in 68 balls by the way.

I don' t have a problem with the king of spain bowling negatively and all..for all the reasons mentioned by mwrkhan.

but seeing as the aussies are very good at exploiting weaknesses....that negative line he bowls ain't gonna do him much good in the tests, the aussies will not allow themselves to get bogged down....

at the end of last year the safrican team was in a rebuilding phase, and their batsmen for all practical reasons just about neutralised giles....the aussies won't wait for an invitation to do the same...

But I don't agree with Terry...that aussie batsmen should "hang themselves" if they get out to giles.... there may just be a twist to this tail in the end.... and a lot of widows down - under!
