Default Rabeed Imam - why did you rate Sakib as 1 of our top 2 young stars.

Why did you rate Ashraful and Sakib in cricinfo as the top two young players in BD?

Sakib ahead of Enamul Jr? And many others too!

Saqibul Hasan has been featured in the Wisden Cricketer Magazine as one of the brightest young players in the world cricket. The March edition of the magazine has profiled 21 of the best under-21 cricketer of the world. They picked minimum of 2 cricketers from each test playing nation. I am not sure why they included Saqib in the list - i suppose because he is only 15 and already showing good potential to become a very fine cricketer. He is currently touring with Bangladesh A in Zimbabwe. He picked up 4 (3 in the first innings) wkts in the current test match and scored a valuable 47. He did very good in the 2nd test match as well (if i can remember).

I have the magazine at home and will post all the other entries tomorrow here.

Well..........Ashraful was a choice made by Wisden. He is already an established player and i guess he is one of the better known cricketers from Bangladesh. And he has awesome talent. So the interest is understandable.

The reason I picked Saqib was because he looks the part. He is 15 or 16 but you will never realise that by the way he goes about his business. Put him in a Test match and he'll appear as if he had been there for years. That does not mean he is ready for the top level. It's just to give you an example of his maturity. And he was born to play cricket. His coach tells me that he sleeps, eats and drinks cricket. Technically very, very good and has courage in abundance. Thrives under pressure and remember, we are talking about a school boy here. I have also taken the opinion of a number of knowledgable people (cricket coaches, players) who are monitoring his progress and they all think that he might just be the brightest youngster in the horizon at the moment. And let's not judge him on performance for the time being. He will go places.

We knew about Ashraful. After the last series, we know about Enamul's potential. Now hearing about Sakib, it just make me so happy that sakib is picked ahead of Enamul as "top two young players in BD".

This is no way to diminish Enamul's performance or his potential so far. This only tells us there are more comming.

Next year I would like some more new faces in the list.

I rate Enamul Jr very very high. He and Saqib have a lot in common in terms of attitude. These are the kind of players you would want in your team always. But I wanted to pick someone who is not in the limelight yet. As Ashraful's name was already suggested by Wisden, I thought it would be better not to go for another established cricketer. But I am a big fan of Enamul.

Thanks Rabeed bhai.

Ask him to become Rajin Saleh's weight training partner.

How is Sakib's SLA skills compared to Enamul's?

I just saw you posted the above at the same time I was asking you this question. Thanks

I am glad he has Enamul's attitude. Fantastic.

RAB,

I also like to know, how you rate Sakib's SLA skills compared to Enamul's; as in a seperate thread you mentioned "I wrote that profile of Saqib in the March edition of Wisden. He is definitely a left-arm spinner. However....batting is his main strength. " thread which surprised me a liitle bit. Beacuse I thought for some reason that he is a left-arm spinner first and a batsman second.

Looks like a young Rafique or Moni in the making - in terms of batting & bowling (P.S. Enamul Junior is a specialist bowler - he doesn't have the batting at least just not right now).
