Selectors decided to play Aftab at 3. But suddenly during batting Bashar(beloved captain) changed his mind.
And it is amazing to see some supporters still supporiting Tushar. They are happy to see him score 10 to 20 runs. Heh, one down batsman is the most important position in one day cricket, who should score at least a 50 in every two matches.

As I said many many times, Tushar is not your #3 Batsman. If one of the opener is out quickly, ususally he doesn't do well with the new ball. He is a #5/#6 batsman. They are screwing up Tushar's career with these kind of experiments. I would rather like to see Tushar not in the team rather than batting at #3.
I like his style, I think he could be a very good one day player for BD if he is used as a lower end Batsman.

And they are(specially Bashar) destroying Aftab's career too, by not using him one-down.

I agree. If any one have a chance to shine at #3, its Aftab. He can play new ball well, has good technique. Bringing him in early will help him adjust early on and give us big scores with good run rate.

Actually, number 3 is the best suited place from tushar's perspective (not from team's perspective though). the way he plays, he can't score runs without hitting everything up in the air. he lacks the ability of placement. at the beginning when the 15 over fielding restriction is there he might be able to score some runs with luck by hitting in the air, but once the 15 overs are gone, he can't do anything. so, dragging him down the order is no solution.

>>he lacks the ability of placement.
How do you so sure about that? I think he stands above the average among our batters in terms of rotating the strike.

Agree. Our batting line-up is not Indian batting line-up. They can afford to waste players like Yuvraj and Kaif at #6 & #7, but we can't.

Aftab's batting performance in ODIs so far are:
0 at 5 (c MV Boucher b SM Pollock )
21at 5 (b DJJ Bravo)
4 at 1 (lbw KD Mills )
4 at 3 (c BB McCullum b KD Mills)
8 at 6 (c CZ Harris b DL Vettori )
30 at 5 (c Harbhajan Singh b S Sriram)
67 at 5 (b M Kartik )
9 at 6 (c MS Dhoni b Harbhajan Singh)
1 at 5 (c BG Rogers b DT Hondo)
15 at 3 (c T Taibu b T Panyangara )
38 at 3 (b P Utseya)
44 at 3 (run out - against Zim)
81 at 3 not out ( against Zim)
51at 6 run out (against England)
21 at 6 not out (against Australia)
0 at 6 (c & b PD Collingwood )
5 at 6 (b A Symonds)
15 at 6 (b AF Giles)
Position 3 - average 45.50 - 5 matches
Position 5 - average 23.80 - 5 matches
Position 6 - average 18.17 - 7 matches
Aftab should be at 3 permanently as also suggested by BBC 5 commentators. Like few posters pointed out Aftab looked at his best at 3 though he has some good knocks at 5 or 6 but always prone to give his wicket away against slower bowlers - (slow) medium pacers or spinners. He certainly is the one who likes the ball come to the bat nicely with some pace in it.
Under the new light of rule change in ODIs, where ODI cricket will see an increase from 15 to 20 overs of fielding restrictions that will apply for the first 10 overs of every innings, in addition to two blocks of five overs later, players in mould of Tushar would make the team competitive for his ability to hit over the top and better ability to rotate the strike in the middle overs against the spinners. He still needs to tidy up his temperament. I would give him few more chances to see if he comes of age in next the series or not.

Disagreeing with Rubu once again, Tushar's problem is not placement, and he does not need to hit in the air to get runs. If you saw his wristy-on drive against Darren Gough through mid-wicket and mid-on or his extra-cover drive off Tremlett, you would know that.
Tushar has both timing and placement, but his technique is suspect. He uses his wrists too much, which is fine against spinners or against medium pacers in the sub-continent where the ball doesn't swing, but in England, he has to play with the straight bat more. Even when he tries to cut or angle the ball down, he does it with a wristy roll of his bat. Also, because he plays wristily rather than with a straight bat, his footwork is shoddy. He is a lot like Mark Waugh in the way he plays through the off-side, only nowhere near as good. The reason that he is hitting in the air so much is because he is playing with his wrists without really getting on top of the ball most of the time. It has nothing to do with 15 over restrictions or the way he wants to play! Someone needs to work with him and sort out his technique, wouldn't want to see someone who times the ball so sweetly go to waste.
Javed Omar and Habibul Bashar with their terrible techniques have come this far and they are too far advanced in life for people to try to change the way they play. Golla has survived all this time through sheer doggedness, and Sumon through excellent hand-eye coordination. But some of our younger guys really need to do some work with a good batting coach.
Shahriar Nafees for example really needs to tighten his off-side game. His extra-cover drives, none of which ever makes contact with the ball, are starting to infuriate me. An opening batsman needs to be able to do more than glance at ball off his feet, which any self-respecting batsman at the higher levels apart from Javed Omar can do, and cut at balls angling away from him, which any self-respecting left-hander should be able to do. Pitch the ball on a good length around his off-stump and he will just hang his bat out without any purpose. If he is going to drive it, he needs to get his front foot out to the pitch of the ball and play through the line, not just have a waft outside off-stump.

While discussing techniques - our SLAs, Rana & Rafique are horrendous when it comes to bowling to left-handed batsmen. It was interesting to watch em bowl when it was an LHB RHB combo today. As soon as the RHB came to the crease, their bowling immediately lookd probing, while with the LHB they looked innocuous for lage portions of the game.

isnt that true for all left hand spinners? and also they were bowling within 15 overs when most runs were taken off them.
