Default Ladies and Gentlemen: We have our third Grand Master!

I'm thrilled to inform everyone that Reefat Bin Sattar has completed his third and final norm in the ongoing United Insurance Grand Master's Chess to become only country's third Grand Master....It will officially be announced by FIDE the Highest Body of Chess very soon.....A great achievement by a player who never quite fulfilled his true potentials...cheers.....

this is kool...grandmasters are coming at a faster rate these days...ever since niaz murshed got the title, we've had to wait a long time till we got the second one.

btw - rifat's always been one of my favs...and he really hasnt lived upto his potential.

Great news for Reefat. Congratulations to him.

Btw Shehwar, does the tournament have any official site? Or any webpage where the games are stored?

Rahman, Ziaur g 2538
Rausis, Igors g 2506
Murshed, Niaz g 2487
Reefat, Bin-Sattar m 2473
Abdulla, Al-Rakib m 2462
Hossain, Enamul m 2453

Looking at April rankings... Only 5 above 2400 (not counting Igors) and the next nearest one is in the 2200s. I have been off the BD chess scene for a long time, so can't say for sure, but this does seem to mean no new blood coming in for a long time. The same players over and over again.

Shewar, if you are familiar with the chess scene in Dhaka - is my "inference" reasonably accurate?

For those who are not familiar with the Dhakai school scene, the Josephites (well, the "true" ones) are the snobbiest, snootiest SOBs. It's in our veins. We were institutionally taught that we are the best students in the best school in Bangladesh. And I have seen and experienced enough reasons and self-fulfiling prophecies to believe so.
