 সপরিবারে ভারতে আইপিএল দেখতে গেছেন বোর্ড সভাপতি আ হ ম মুস্তফা কামাল। সেখানে থেকে টেলিফোনে বললেন, ‘এখনই নাম বলা যাবে না। তবে অনেক বড় কোচ আনছি এবার।’
 স্টুয়ার্ট ল-র পর এবারও নতুন কোচের সন্ধানে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখছেন বিসিবির মিডিয়া কমিটির প্রধান জালাল ইউনুস। অনেক কোচের এজেন্ট যোগাযোগ রাখছে তাঁর সঙ্গে। তিনিও আভাস দিলেন, ‘টেস্ট খেলুড়ে দলের কোচিংয়ের অভিজ্ঞতা আছে, এমন বড় কাউকেই আনতে চাইছি আমরা।’
—জাতীয় দলের নতুন কোচ খুঁজতে গিয়ে বিসিবি যেসব বিষয় বিবেচনা করছে, তার মধ্যে অন্যতম নামে ভারী হতে হবে। সঙ্গে আছে আরও কিছু শর্ত। কোচকে হতে হবে ব্যাটিং বিশেষজ্ঞ। কোচ হিসেবে এযাবৎকালে তাঁর সাফল্যের হার সন্তোষজনক হতে হবে। বাংলাদেশ দলের সঙ্গে ২০১৫ বিশ্বকাপ পর্যন্ত থাকতে রাজি হবেন। কোচ আইপিএল বা এ জাতীয় কোনো টুর্নামেন্টে যেতে চাইবেন না। আশা করা হচ্ছে, এসব শর্ত পূরণ করে এ মাসের মধ্যেই জানা যাবে স্টুয়ার্ট ল-র উত্তরসূরির নাম। নতুন কোচ চেয়ে বিসিবির দেওয়া বিজ্ঞাপন অনুযায়ী আবেদনের শেষ সময় আগামী ১৫ মে।
তবে এমন নয়, বিজ্ঞাপন দেখে আবেদন করাদের মধ্য থেকেই নেওয়া হবে নতুন কোচ। প্রয়োজনে এর বাইরে গিয়েও কোচ খোঁজা হতে পারে। সূত্র জানিয়েছে, ক্রিকেটে উন্নত কয়েকটি দেশের বোর্ডের কাছেও সেসব দেশের ভালো কোচদের সম্পর্কে ধারণা চেয়েছে বিসিবি। তবে নতুন কোচ যে-ই হোন, মোটা অঙ্কের বেতনই গুনতে হবে বিসিবিকে। মোটামুটি মানের কোচদেরও নাকি মাসে ২০-২৫ হাজার মার্কিন ডলারের কমে পাওয়া কঠিন হয়ে পড়েছে। সদ্য বিদায়ী অস্ট্রেলিয়ান কোচ স্টুয়ার্ট ল বেতন পেতেন মাসে সাড়ে ১৮ হাজার ডলার। সঙ্গে ছিল অন্যান্য সুযোগ-সুবিধা।
শেষ পর্যন্ত কে হতে পারেন বাংলাদেশ দলের নতুন কোচ? এখন পর্যন্ত বাজারে অনেক নাম—মিক নিউয়েল, ডারমট রিভ, ডিন জোন্স, অ্যালান ডোনাল্ড, জন রাইট, টিম নিলসেন। এঁদের মধ্যে ডোনাল্ড কাল বলে দিয়েছেন, বিসিবি থেকে কোনো প্রস্তাবই তিনি পাননি। পেলেও বাংলাদেশে আসার ইচ্ছা নেই। বিসিবির আগ্রহ কম জোন্স আর রিভের বিষয়ে। জন রাইটের সঙ্গে কোনো পর্যায়েই কোনো যোগাযোগ হয়নি। মোটা অঙ্কের বেতন চাচ্ছেন বলে টিম নিলসেনকে নিয়ে আলোচনা নাকি আপাতত স্থগিত। নটিংহ্যামশায়ারের ডিরেক্টর অব ক্রিকেট মিক নিউয়েল আছেন পছন্দের দ্বিতীয় সারির তালিকায়।
কোচ নিয়োগের সঙ্গে সম্পৃক্ত এক বোর্ড পরিচালক কাল হাসতে হাসতে বললেন, ‘যাদের নাম এখন পর্যন্ত মিডিয়ায় এসেছে তাদের কেউ আমাদের প্রথম পছন্দের তালিকায় নেই। যারা প্রথম পছন্দের তালিকায় আছেন, তাদের কারও নাম এখনো মিডিয়ায় আসেনি।’ তাহলে প্রথম পছন্দের তালিকায় আছেন কারা? সংগত কারণে প্রশ্নটি এড়িয়ে গেলেও একটি ‘ক্লু’ দিলেন ওই পরিচালক, ‘দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকা বা নিউজিল্যান্ড থেকেই আসবে নতুন কোচ।’
বিসিবির আরেকটি সূত্র জানিয়েছে, দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকায় স্থায়ী হয়ে যাওয়া ইংলিশ কোচ রিচার্ড পাইবাস সম্ভাবনায় ওপরের দিকেই আছেন। এই সূত্র উড়িয়ে দিচ্ছে না অস্ট্রেলিয়ার টিম নিলসেনকেও। নিউজিল্যান্ডের সাবেক ইংলিশ কোচ অ্যান্ডি মোলসের নামটাও চাইলে যোগ করে নিতে পারেন। বাংলাদেশের কোচ হওয়ার আগ্রহ প্রকাশ করেছেন তিনিও।
নতুন কোচ নিয়ে বিসিবির লুকোচুরি নতুন কিছু নয়। কারণটাও জানা, সম্ভাব্য কোচদের নাম আগেই জানাজানি হয়ে গেলে পরে দরদামে সমস্যা হয়। অতীত থেকে শিখে এবার তাই মুখে তালা মেরে রাখার চেষ্টা সবার। এই কৌশলে সফল হয়ে যদি জাতীয় দলের জন্য একজন ভালো কোচ খুঁজে পাওয়া যায়, মন্দ কী? তবে অবস্থা যা, তাতে আগামী ১৫ মের মধ্যে আরও না কত নাম চলে আসে আলোচনায়!
ভারত থেকে বিসিবি সভাপতির দেওয়া আশ্বাসটা সত্যি হলে অবশ্য সে আশঙ্কা কমই। ‘আমরা কাজ প্রায় গুছিয়ে এনেছি। আশা করছি, আগামী ৩-৪ দিনের মধ্যে নতুন কোচ চূড়ান্ত হয়ে যাবে’—টেলিফোনে বলেছেন মুস্তফা কামাল।


Ian, according to Lotus, it's a more High Profile coach. Got to wonder who the heck is that? One of the directors did clue in that the new guy could be from RSA or NZ. Hmmmm.....are they hiding John Wright behind closed doors? Yes we all know about the high demand of salary but you never know Ian.

Former New Zealand players Mark Greatbatch and Dion Nash have endorsed the idea of having separate coaches for different formats of cricket for the national team, and expects this to happen in the future.

Nash thinks the move is just a natural expansion from having batting, bowling and fielding coaches, and could work well as long as all the coaches were singing from the same song sheet.

"With so much cricket being played, people can't commit to being on tour for 12 months of the year so you have to start thinking outside of the square to find a way of doing things. [Multiple coaches] is more feasible ... especially for younger people with families," Stuff.co.nz quoted Nash, as saying.

Former head coach Greatbatch believes the plan had merit, and is quite feasible.

He said: "One guy could probably do it, but with 50 over cricket and Twenty20 cricket you've got World Cups now and with different coaches those people have more time to work with certain players on different plans and strategies."

"I'm agreeing with the theory of having more than one coach, but I'm not sure about three; I think the second guy could do the Twenty20 and one-day stuff," he added.

New Zealand Cricket boss David White believes with a chock-a-block international schedule in the coming three years, the idea of dual coaching system makes sense, and he also claimed this week possibility of multiple coaches had been looked into.

"The Future Tours programme until 2020 is incredibly condensed, and there's virtually no time between tours. So going forward, we need to look at our coaches and support staff so we manage the workload, because it is incredibly demanding," White said.

বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেট দলের কোচের তালিকা খুব দীর্ঘ নয়। দুই থেকে তিনজনই রয়েছেন পছন্দের তালিকায়। এটিও ঠিক, স্টুয়ার্ট ল-এর পদত্যাগের পর বিশ্বের অনেক নামীদামি কোচ যোগাযোগ করেছেন বিসিবির সাথে। সেখান থেকেই বাছাই করা হয়েছে ওই শর্ট লিস্ট। গতকাল বিসিবির মিডিয়া কমিটির চেয়ারম্যান জালাল ইউনুস বলেন, ‘আমরা দু-তিনজন হাইপ্রোফাইল কোচ পছন্দের তালিকায় রেখেছি। এর মধ্যে প্রথমজনকে আমরা শিগগিরই ডাকব ইন্টারভিউর জন্য। যদি সব কিছুতে বনিবনা হয়ে যায় তাহলে অন্য আর কাউকে ডাকব না।’ তিনি বলেন, ‘সেটি শিগগিরই এবং এ মাসের মধ্যেই হতে পারে’। বিসিবির এই পরিচালক বলেন, আমাদের পছন্দ করলেই তো আর হচ্ছে না। তাদের ডিমান্ড অর্থাৎ অর্থের ব্যাপার রয়েছে। তবে এর মধ্যেই বেছে নিতে হবে একজনকে। যারা আমাদের দলের সাথে, কন্ডিশনের সাথে দ্রুত মানিয়ে নিতে পারবেন। তবে কারা হতে যাচ্ছেন সাকিব-তামিম-মুশফিকদের সেই কোচ, তা বলতে নারাজ তিনি।
তবে অন্য একটি সূত্র থেকে জানা গেছে, জাতীয় দলের কোচের জন্য কোচের আগ্রহ ও বিসিবির চাহিদার সাথে অনেকাংশে মিলে গেছেন এমন দু’জন হলেন দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকা ও পাকিস্তানের সাবেক কোচ রিচার্ড পাইবাস ও অস্ট্রেলিয়ার সাবেক হেড কোচ জন বুকানন। অস্ট্রেলিয়ার দায়িত্ব ছাড়ার পর কলকাতা নাইট রাইডার্সেরও কোচ ছিলেন বুকানন। কিন্তু আপাতত ফ্রি রয়েছেন অস্ট্রেলিয়ার হাইপ্রোফাইল এ কোচ। বাংলাদেশের কোচ হওয়ার ক্ষেত্রে যথেষ্ট আগ্রহ রয়েছে তার এবং তার ডিমান্ড ও সব মিলিয়ে বিসিবির পছন্দের তালিকার অন্তত দু’জনের মধ্যে রয়েছেন এই অসি কোচ। কলকাতা নাইট রাইডার্সের কোচ থাকার সুবাদে একটা ধারণাও রয়েছে উপমহাদেশের ব্যাপারে। ফলে বিসিবি তাকে নিয়ে চিন্তাভাবনা করছে বলে জানা গেছে। তবে বুকাননের চেয়েও কিছুটা এগিয়ে ইংলিশ কোচ রিচার্ড পাইবাস। দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকা ও পাকিস্তান দলের হেড কোচের দায়িত্ব পালন করা এ কোচের খুবই আগ্রহ বাংলাদেশের কোচ হওয়ার ব্যাপারে। পাকিস্তানের দায়িত্ব পালন করায় তারও উপমহাদেশের কন্ডিশন সম্পর্কে ভালোই জানা। তা ছাড়া দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকার মতো দলের দায়িত্ব পালন করে আসা এ ইংলিশ ক্রিকেটারের প্রতি আগ্রহ বেশিই বলে জানা গেছে। এতে ইন্টারভিউতে তিনিই চলে আসতে পারেন সবার আগে। বিসিবির পরিচালকের মতে, কথাবার্তায় মিলে গেলে স্টুয়ার্টের স্থলাভিষিক্ত হতে পারেন তিনিই। বিসিবির পরিচালক বলেছেন, ‘আসলে আমাদের হাতে এখনো সময় রয়েছে। কারণ আপাতত কোনো আন্তর্জাতিক শিডিউল নেই অন্তত আগস্টের আগে। ফলে একটু দেখেশুনেও আমরা এটি করতে পারি। যদি সব কিছু মিলেই যায়, তাহলে চূড়ান্ত করে ফেলতে তো সমস্যা নেই।’

I am starting to wonder if it is Bayliss after all said and done. I mean nobody ruled out an Aussie coach even though BCB is "leaning" on RSA or NZ coaches. Also if they really want someone from NZ, then Fleming comes into the scene, while permitting the fact that he wants a full-time international coaching job. So, here's my theory:

1. Lotus is visiting Kolkata right now, right? Who's the coach for the KKR? (Ahem enter Trevor Bayliss).


OR if they really want a Kiwi for a coach (and a HIGH PROFILE "BIG NAME" one besides Wright):

2. Lotus will be visiting Chennai. Why?

Head Coach of the CSK: Stephen Fleming.

3. Why Fleming or Bayliss?

Both were high-profile as player or coach (Fleming sticks out the most as a player. Bayliss took the Lankans to the WC Final we all know).

I tell ya this is fishy in a positive way. There are two big names sitting out there in the IPL and we can get one of them somehow.

WHY THE HELL IS BD media talking to cricinfo about who will coach BANGLADESH Mick newell , allan donald , was not contacted by BCB nor did they drop any CV why the hell are they letting the whole world know about it without choosing the cv dropped and then they can cotnact by themselves and then announce it to the media later there is no need to announce anything about MICK, Donald or anyone without finalizing anything.
just create a short list of candidates and call them up and contact them no need to tell the media about MICK or Donald without letting them know its creates a bad Imrpession on our cricket board...

To be honest I dont think BCB is to be blamed at all. BCB approached some of the coaches while the others were unapproached but still on the BCB's want-list. They probably even showed priority to some of the coaches

However, the Yellowmen of our country added spice and said that this guy, or this guy are in running for the job and cr^p.

Just like Mr. Pont said, the only thing to believe in the newspaper report is the DATE.

BCB hasnt really made anything official, they are still thinking for the time being.

Kamal going to watch IPL in India cannot be a coincidence. It's likely he is there to talk personally to the potential candidate. I hope we can get Stephen Fleming. He was a master tactician as captain and knew how to bring the best out of limited resources.

I don't see Flemimg leaving Chennai for us. He has been the most successful of all the IPL coaches and I'm sure the pay is great. And considering how unprofessional BCB is I doubt he would even think about leaving chennai for BD.

ক্রীড়া প্রতিবেদক : বাংলাদেশের সাবেক এ কোচ খুবই আগ্রহী। কিন্তু জাতীয় দল তো বটেই, একাডেমীর প্রধান কোচ হিসেবেও তাঁর নাম আলোচনায় অনাগ্রহী বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেট বোর্ডের (বিসিবি) নীতিনির্ধারকরা। পাকিস্তানের প্রধান নির্বাচকের সঙ্গে ইতিমধ্যেই খটমট লেগে গেছে ডেভ হোয়াটমোরের। তবে কি কোচ পদে খ্যাতিমান কাউকে বসানোর পরিকল্পনায় এ অস্ট্রেলিয়ানের নাম আছে? না, তা নেই। সাবেকদের কাউকে ফিরিয়ে আনার ইচ্ছা নেই বিসিবির। নেই আইপিএলের ফ্র্যাঞ্চাইজির সঙ্গে জড়িত বিদেশি কোচদের নামও। এ চিন্তা অবশ্য পুরোপুরি 'অর্থনৈতিক'। ঠিক একই কারণে জাতীয় দলের সম্ভাব্য নতুন কোচদের সংক্ষিপ্ত তালিকা থেকে ঝরে গেছে টিম নিয়েলসনের নাম। আর ততই উজ্জ্বল হচ্ছে রিচার্ড পাইবাস এবং কেপলার ওয়েসেলসের নাম।
'খুব বেশি টাকা দাবি করছে কোনো কোনো নামি কোচের এজেন্ট', টিম নিয়েলসন কিংবা আইপিএল কোচদের মধ্য থেকে কাউকে পাওয়ার আশা তাই ছেড়েই দিয়েছেন নাম প্রকাশে অনিচ্ছুক বিসিবির এক কর্মকর্তা। ভালো কোচের জন্য অর্থ বিনিয়োগে আপত্তি নেই বিসিবির। তবে সে বিনিয়োগ সাধ্যাতীত হলে ভিন্ন কথা। যেমন আইপিএলের দুই কোচের এজেন্ট নাকি বছরে পাঁচ লাখ ডলার মূল বেতন দাবি করেছেন! সে হিসাবে মাসে ৪০ হাজার ডলার। যেখানে সদ্য বিদায়ী স্টুয়ার্ট ল আয়কর বাদে পেতেন ১৫ হাজার ডলারের মতো। এবার তা বাড়িয়ে ২৫ হাজার ডলার পর্যন্ত দিতে রাজি বিসিবি। তাই আইপিএল কিংবা নিয়েলসনের চিন্তা বাদ দিয়েছে বিসিবি।
তবে নতুন কোচের ব্যাপারে এ মাসেই চূড়ান্ত সিদ্ধান্ত হয়ে যাওয়ার ব্যাপারে প্রবল আশাবাদী বিসিবি পরিচালক এবং মিডিয়া কমিটি চেয়ারম্যান জালাল ইউনুস, '১৫ মে পর্যন্ত আবেদনের সময় আছে। এরই মধ্যে বেশ কিছু আবেদন এসেছে। তবে হাই প্রোফাইল কোচদের ক্ষেত্রে আবেদনের ব্যাপার নেই। তাদের এজেন্টরা সরাসরি যোগাযোগ করে।' সে রকম পাঁচ-ছয়জনের নাম নিয়েই নাড়াচাড়া করছেন কোচ নিয়োগ প্রক্রিয়ার সঙ্গে যুক্ত জালাল ইউনুস, গাজী আশরাফ হোসেন লিপু এবং বিসিবির ভারপ্রাপ্ত প্রধান নির্বাহী নিজামউদ্দিন চৌধুরী। গতকাল সন্ধ্যায় আগ্রহীদের মধ্য থেকে সংক্ষিপ্ত একটি তালিকা তৈরির লক্ষ্যে সভা করেছেন এঁরা। যদিও সভার বিস্তারিত জানাতে অপারগতা জানিয়েছেন তিনজনই। এর কারণটা অবশ্য জানিয়েছেন জালাল, 'সম্ভাব্য কোচদের নাম প্রচার পেয়ে গেলে সংশ্লিষ্ট ব্যক্তি নাখোশ হন। এ ছাড়া নিয়োগসংক্রান্ত দরকষাকষিও কঠিন হয়ে যায়।'
তাই আপাতত সংক্ষিপ্ত তালিকার নাম গোপন করার প্রাণপণ চেষ্টা চলছে বিসিবির পক্ষ থেকে। তবু গোপনীয়তার ফাঁক-ফোকর দিয়ে বেরিয়ে আসছে কিছু নাম। গুঞ্জনটা বেশি জোরালো রিচার্ড পাইবাসকে ঘিরে। জন্ম ইংল্যান্ডে। তবে দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকার এ স্থায়ী নিবাসী শ্রীলঙ্কায় একবার এবং দুই দফায় দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন পাকিস্তান দলের। অ্যালান ডোনাল্ড তো বটেই, বোলিংনির্ভর কোনো কোচের প্রতি নূ্যনতম আগ্রহ নেই বিসিবির। জালাল জানিয়েছেন, 'আমাদের প্রথম পছন্দ ব্যাটিং ওরিয়েন্টেড কোচ। যাঁর আন্তর্জাতিক অভিজ্ঞতা আছে। সঙ্গে কোচিং অভিজ্ঞতা অবশ্যই থাকতে হবে।' সে মতে খোঁজ নিয়ে যদি কাউকে না পাওয়া যায়, তাহলে দ্বিতীয় ভাবনাও বিসিবির আছে বলে জানিয়েছেন জালাল, 'সে রকম হলে নামি কোনো কোচ খুঁজব। আমরা এমন একজনকে চাই যিনি ক্রিকেট শেখানোর পাশাপাশি দলের ওপর কর্তৃত্ব করতে পারবেন।'
এর সব 'মানদণ্ড'ই আছে জন রাইটের মাঝে। জন বুকাননের সঙ্গে বনিবনা না হওয়ায় যিনি নিউজিল্যান্ড দলের কোচের পদ থেকে সরে দাঁড়ানোর ঘোষণা দিয়েছেন সদ্যই। ব্যাটসম্যান হিসেবে সাবেক এ কিউইর রয়েছে সফল আন্তর্জাতিক ক্যারিয়ার। আবার রাইটের হাত ধরেই দেশের বাইরে শক্তিশালী দল হিসেবে আবির্ভূত হয়েছিল ভারত। তবে তাঁর সঙ্গে এখনো আনুষ্ঠানিক কোনো আলোচনাই হয়নি বলে জানিয়েছে বিসিবির আরেকটি সূত্র, 'রাইট নিউজিল্যান্ড দল ছেড়ে দেওয়ার ঘোষণা দেওয়ার আগে থেকেই আমরা কোচ খুঁজছি। তাই এখনো ওর সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ হয়নি। তা ছাড়া ওর এজেন্ট কে, সেটাও জানি না।' তার ওপর যে 'প্রোফাইল', তাতে রাইটের সম্ভাব্য বেতনও কিছুটা ব্যাকফুটে ঠেলে দিয়েছে বিসিবিকে। তবে দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকার সাবেক অধিনায়ক কেপলার ওয়েসেলসের ব্যাপারটা এবার অন্য রকম। তাঁর ব্যাপারে সেই ডেভ হোয়াটমোরের উত্তরসূরি খোঁজার আমল থেকেই আগ্রহী বিসিবি। কিন্তু বাংলাদেশে লম্বা সময়ের জন্য চাকরি করতে আগ্রহী নন অস্ট্রেলিয়া এবং দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকার হয়ে আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেট খেলা এ বাঁহাতি ব্যাটসম্যান। বিসিবির একটি সূত্র জানিয়েছে যে চারজনের সংক্ষিপ্ত তালিকায় ওয়েসেলস নামটিও আছে। তবে তাঁর ছুটিসংক্রান্ত দাবি-দাওয়া ঠিক মনোপূত হচ্ছে না বিসিবির। ইংলিশ কোচ মিক নিউওয়েলের নাম বেশ জোরেশোরে আলোচিত হচ্ছে। কিন্তু পছন্দের অন্তত চারটি নামের কোনো একটির সঙ্গেও যদি সমঝোতা না হয়, তাহলেই কেবল নিওয়েলের সঙ্গে আলোচনা করবে বিসিবি।
এত সম্ভাবনা আর গুঞ্জনের অবসান সহসাই ঘটবে বলে আশাবাদী জালাল ইউনুস, 'আগামী চার-পাঁচ দিনের মধ্যে অনেক অগ্রগতি হবে। এ মুহূর্তে এর বেশি কিছু বলতে পারছি না।' জানা গেছে, সম্ভাব্য নতুন কোচ কয়েক দিন পরই বাংলাদেশে আসছেন সাক্ষাৎকার দিতে। সরকারিভাবে সেটি সাক্ষাৎকার হলেও নতুন কোচের এ আগাম সফরের কারণ ভিন্ন- বাংলাদেশের ক্রিকেট অবকাঠামোটা একবার সরেজমিনে দেখে নিতে চান তিনি। এতটা যিনি খুঁতখুঁতে, ধরে নেওয়া যায় আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটে তাঁর কিছু নাম-ডাক অবশ্যই আছে।
