ODI Improvement Monitor (Dec 2012)
This thread is late in coming since its been so obvious that Bangladesh have gradually gone from wretched to crap to poor to [hopefully now] an average side.
Australia from 2000 to 2007 WC can serve as the standard:
160 wins, 46 losses, bat avg = 40.16, RR = 5.40, bowl avg = 25.06 , econ = 4.68
Australia's average score batting first would be 270-7 and their opposition's 234-9. Their average-RR ratio would be = (40.16*5.4)/(25.06*4.68) = 1.849
So for Bangladesh we have the following time intervals:
Start of Test era:
0 wins, 43 losses, bat avg = 18.46, RR = 3.84, bowl avg = 48.20, econ = 5.32
ratio = 0.276
From First Win of Test Era to 2007 WC (6 wins against G8 teams**):
33 wins, 43 losses, bat avg = 24.76, RR = 4.38, bowl avg = 29.55 , econ = 4.59
ratio = 0.800
Ashraful-Shakib-Siddons Era (3 wins vs G8 teams):
21 wins, 51 losses, bat avg = 25.42, RR = 4.60, bowl avg = 35.09, econ = 5.27
ratio = 0.632
Since the NZ TigerWash (10 wins vs G8 teams):
17 wins, 17 losses, bat avg = 27.52, RR = 4.60, bowl avg, = 27.64, econ = 4.79
ratio = 0.956
** The early 2004 ZIM team counts as a "G8" side since they were ranked ahead of us and had Streak, G Flower, S Ervine, and a number of other first choice players.

You need to plot the entire 10+ years like I did so many years ago to plot the Whatmore Effect.

Wouldn't the NZ BanglaWash be counted under Siddons era ??
He was the head coach and the stats should go under his column, IMO.
In that case, 4 wins against G8 in one series alone plus the 3 you mention.
The last era should start from the Zim 2011 series, isnt it ?

Asaad had a predetermined point to make.
Stat'er ei mar-pach heabbi moja.

If I were to create a timeline I would stop at Ash and start a new point from Shakib and onwards. Obviously Asaad wouldn't do that cause he is a diehard Ashraful fan.

Its more about the team than individuals although I agree some individuals have enough ability and innate "talunt" to warrant accomodation - up to a point and Ashraful was certainly one of those if he isn't anymore.
That being said, the eras I chose haven't been exact, but have been approximations mainly because I don't have all the dates memorized but I do know the general chronology of things. So now I'll explain.
The first era is from the beginning of test status up until our 2004 ZIM tour where we won a match for the first time. The second era is that time until the end of 07 world cup. The period after that is Ashraful-Siddons (and later Shakib) era. The NZ Tigerwash hasn't been attributed to either Siddons or Shakib not to sleight one or both men but to create a new era where Bangladesh demonstrated the ability to a) win a series against a G8 side, b) put together a string of victories against a G8 side c) win without a major player (Tamim and Mashrafee) in the side.
Bangladesh doesn't need Tamim to win, Bangladesh doesn't need Shakib to win either.

We're a team of champions. Every individual except Abul is a winner.
