Match Thread: 1st Test: Australia vs India
The Australian Tour in India can be considered as the most exciting series at this moment with lots of expectations from both the sides. The 1st Test is going to start at 04:00 GMT, Oct 6, 2004 in Bangalore
Here is how the teams were examined:
AUSTRALIA
This is the best bowling attack Australia have ever brought to India. Glenn McGrath, Jason Gillespie, Brett Lee and Michael Kasprowicz are a formidable pace quartet, though at least one of them will be on the bench, with Shane Warne at the fittest – and perhaps the most motivated – he has been coming to India.
INDIA
Class is permanent … but dammit, form is neccessary

Tendulkar misses first Test
Tendulker will not be playing the first Test unfortunately
Losing Tendulkar is a huge blow to India's chances Indian batting star Sachin Tendulkar has been ruled out of the first Test against Australia.
Tendulkar has failed to recover sufficiently from tennis elbow and misses the Bangalore Test, which starts on Wednesday. India captain Sourav Ganguly said he was hopeful Tendulkar would be fit enough for the second Test.
Ganguly told a news conference: "Sachin is not playing in this Test match, he will probably play in the next."

India turn to Sunny
India have called up batting great Sunil Gavaskar to assist its out-of-form batsmen ahead of the Test series against world champions Australia starting on Wednesday.

Kumble knocks the 400th wicket door
India’s Anil Kumble hopes to claim his 400th wicket on home turf when the first Test against Australia starts here on Wednesday - but preferably not on the opening day itself.
The veteran leg-spinner is three wickets away from becoming the second Indian after Kapil Dev and the ninth in Test history to achieve the bowlers’ version of climbing Mount Everest.

well done Kumble hope he gets his 400th but that is all. I think its an over prepared pitch in that they did a fair bit of scrubbing of grass.

Day 1 to Australia, but in the last three India - Australia tests that produced a result, the team that won the first day ended up losing the match
Edit : Changed four to three.
