BD lowest test score better than all the rest.
As BD are not currently playing any international cricket, i thought i would look at some interesting test match statistics.
what i found was a pleasant surprise.
lowest test scores,
26 by N.Zealand vs ENG on 25th March 1955
30 by S.AFRICA vs ENG on 14th June 1924
36 by AUSTRALIA vs ENG on 29th may 1902
42 by INDIA vs ENG on 20th June 1974
45 by ENGLAND vs AUS on 28th Jan 1887
47 by W.INDIES vs ENG on 11th Mar 2004
53 by PAKISTAN vs AUST on 11th Oct 2002
63 by ZIMBABWE vs W.IND on 16th Mar 2000
71 by SRI.LANKA vs PAK on 26th Aug 1994
86 by BANGLADESH vs W.IND on 8th Dec 2002
hmm, made my day.
i think there is light at the end of the tunnel guys.
(by the way, can some one please pass this info on to that Kiwi reporter, Jonathan Willmow)

well, look at how many tests we have played. i'm pretty sure the record will be broken once we play more tests - just natural.

Find out how many tests BD has played thus far - x tests. Then see if the lowest score for each of the other contries occured during the first x tests. If so, then you may feel a little more cheerful, yet again.

well we play 32 test i think so far. our lowest score is higher then the rest of the test playing countries lowest score but the problem is we score around 86 runs too many times. most of our scores are in 100s and some in 200s only a few times we passed over 300 runs. and twice over 400s. the funny thing is we havent reaced 300s mark in bangladesh soil after our debut test against india. we have been pretty consistant score around our lowest score so far which is the bad thing.

if i had the time to go through all those statistics, i will probably find that after 32 test matches, our lowest score would still be better than most of them, if not all.
but i agree with shaoun's remarks about us scoring around the 86 mark a bit too often
anyway, the jist of my post was to spark some positive feelings amongst BD fans before the start of the next test

Positive stats but are spoiled by the fact that BD hasn't won a test yet.... let's hope this changes soon.

good point H_fan.
I'd be even more harsh on this.. lets talk about lowest scores in last 20-25 years only... (coz cricket has come a long way since its birth)

But that wouldn't be a fair statistic because Bangladesh haven't played for 20-25 years

New Zealand would still be lower as they scored 76 against aussies recently. And was the Pakistan match in Sharjah against aussies this century when they made 50 and 54 or something like that. still not the worst.

the reason y bd has 86 as its lowest score is that when the top order fails, the lower order does "well" and takes bd to above 100. also, when the lower order fails, it does in those matches only when the top order has made more than 86.
however, look at highest scores by each team -
952-6d Sri Lanka v India Colombo (RPS) 1997
903-7d England v Australia The Oval 1938
790-3d West Indies v Pakistan Kingston 1957/58
758-8d Australia v West Indies Kingston 1954/55
708 Pakistan v England The Oval 1987
705-7d India v Australia Sydney 2003/04
682-6d South Africa v England Lord's 2003
671-4 *New Zealand v Sri Lanka Wellington 1990/91
563-9d *Zimbabwe v West Indies Harare 2001
416 Bangladesh v West Indies Gros Islet 2004

ooh... sorry i misunderstood ur post.
i thought u were talking about stats of last 100 years.
ya u r right.. recent stats matter most.
but again.. about this thread topic "Ranking of teams in terms of lowest scores" is quite funny i think
doesnt matter if BD is the top ranked team in that list anyway.

I agree.
It only tells how desperate we fans are to find the slimmest of hope. If I were a shrink, I would term it as inferiority complex.

These stats are where you can have the argument of saying that Bangladesh is a new team and will get higher scores than this.

As a team plays more and more, its lowest score may go lower and its highest score may go higher. In any case, the lowest and highest totals are exceptions rather than a correct indication of the batting prowess of a team.
The average total that a team manages over a period of time is a better indication of it. It is desirable that the average score is closer to the highest score rather than the lowest score.

To beat New Zealand's record ( 26 all out) will be pretty hard though/
