Your Lords Playing XI
with the second day's play of the 3rd practice match being washed out our warm-ups are effectively over. now it is time to speculate on the playing XI (or put the one you want).
this XI was proposed by shaoun and it is in batting order as well. i vote for this one.
1. Javed Omar
2. Nafis Iqbal
3. *Bashar
4. Ashraful
5. Rajin
6. Aftab
7. +Pilot
8. Rafique
9. Mashrafee
10. Tapash
11. Shahadat Hossain Rajib
12. best fielder remaining
notes:
a) i don't really care who takes strike first, JO or nafis, other than that the batting order is perfect.
b) masri and rajib should open the bowling, tapash 1st change, and aftab should bowl his mediums
c) ash and rajin may be used to bowl leggies and offies respectively and if they get massacred, pull em outta the attack.
the goals of this team:
1. win the toss
2. then elect to field unless the pitch is a batting paradise
3. bowl ENG inside 450 prefereably 400
4. put up at least 300 when we bat
5. make england bat again
6. bat slowly and steadily in the 2nd innings
7. allah bhorosha

i have absolutely no doubt that the team you chose is our best XI and will make it to to the field at Lords. any changes will come as a big surprise to me.

yes, there is no doubt in my mind that this gonna be the squad and this is what I want to see. because this is the best possible. BUT, i'm a bit shaky about shahadat. no doubt he is better than talha and munir in this tour but not sure if he is ready to be facing england batting lineup. he can get hammered if not careful.
Good Luck Shahadat, good luck Bangladesh.

I like your team. Why Mushfiqur instead of Rajin? I think currently Rajin is not in his best form whereas Mushfiqur is in his best form for quite a while. He proved with team-a, u-19 and then with warmup match.
But Rain in 3rd warm-up pretty much spoiled all the hope for Mushfiq and gave a new life for Rajin.
So I like your team, but pretty much sure Rajin will be in the team instead.

You cannot prove to higher level unless you are given an opportunity. Therefore the comment like "but did he prove to be good in the same level of cricket " reaaly doesn't carry any merit to me.
>>he is just too young i think.
And he is too young? Sure he is. Some people mature earlier and some people never mature even at the age of 40. I think he is matured more than his age and more than some of our players in national team. I gues we will never know who is right unless he is given a chance.
>> as u said rajin will win at the end
I don't know what do you mean by the word win? Getting selected in the team? Things are getting tough in national team... and nobody wins for so long unless they produce for the national team. And reagrdless of if Mushfiqur is selected or not for 1st test... his time will come (to prove his case) one time or another... so in that case IO don't see a case of Rajin vs Mushfique as you do.
And also if Rajin is not selcted I don't think Rajin looses in the long term also.

I didn't want to guess the possible XI, but the XI I would like to see.
I wanted to play Mushfiq for the reasons you mentioned. After the rain, it's 99% confirm that Rajin is going to play and Mushfiq is going to sit.
We can still hope for some miracle. If Northamptonshire gets all-out very quickly tomorrow and Mushfiq gets some time to prove himself again.......

জাভেদ তো জিম্বাবুয়ে ছাড়া আর সব দলের সাথেই খুবই বাজে খেলে.....
So far Abir hasn't done anything very special in this tour to claim his place in the test team instead of Javed. But we should definately try him as specialist opener in the ODI series

Much has been written about the test team selection. In my humble opinion, most of the lists have followed a supposedly well established custom that in England you have to play with 3 pace bowlers and a spinner.
Who says so ?
Many of you may not have been born when India won their first test match in England. I have looked up Cricket Archive to remind myself of the team in that test match.
http://www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Arch...28/f28628.html
India
SM Gavaskar
AV Mankad
*AL Wadekar
DN Sardesai
GR Viswanath
ED Solkar
+FM Engineer
S Abid Ali
S Venkataraghavan
BS Bedi
BS Chandrasekhar
Chandrasekhar bowled India to a famous win at the Oval, much like Fazal did for Pakistan 17 years earlier. The staple diet of our cricketing stories when we were pre - teenagers.
The important point is this: whilst, ideally, in English conditions, a team would go in with three pace bowlers provided the bowling strength merited their selection.
You cannot select young bowlers who have not played a single test match simply basing your judgement over what they did against a below rank University side and another 3rd string county XI.
In view of the fact that our bowling was less than impressive against a decent though not full strength Sussex side, I would fall back on tried and tested bowlers including so far our only match winner.
Bangladesh is a pretty ordinary side when we put our emotions aside. Many neutrals would justifiably argue what right we had to be playing at Lords on Thursday. Therefore, given this available pool of bowlers, we should pick our strongest bowling line-up whoever they are. This should include all three of our bowlers currently ranked above 50 in the LG rankings: They are Rafique, Mashrafe and Enamul. Some might say, Enamul has had a bad tour so far. Well, what has Mashrafe done exactly ? 2 - 172 , I believe. Both the wickets came against the University boys. We only have one batsman ranked above 50 , Bashar.
However, I am an emotional Bangalee too ! And, am desperate. I Like all of us, I , too, have been looking for the silver lining to lighten up these dark days ! But, I also take account of the sagacity and wisdom of others who know the game far better than me.
Years ago, I learned my cricket, listening to Trevor Bailey. Sadly, his wisdom is no longer available. But Christopher Martin-Jenkins has grown over the years. He noticed two of our players, but only for their talent. One was Shahadat and the other Rahim. He warned about Shahadat's run up but we can discuss that another time. Rahim was the only batsman, he wrote, who stood up [ all 5' 4" of him ] in the only match that mattered. He played from within his crease but he played straight. For all those who will say let us have Rajin's experience and technique [ did I say technique ? ], I have only to ask, what has that experience got us.
Going back to where I started, India won that test match crucially because they selected their potential match winners. And, one of them, Chandrasekhar clicked. The rest, for many Indians, is folklore. Abid Ali and Solkar were batsman / bowlers, actually not unlike what our Aftab is becoming. Engineer sometimes used to stand up to Abid Ali - so much for the opening bowler.
The English play hundreds of seam and swing bowlers. Each county has dozens of Taposh's and Monir's. Will anyone of them get a call by any of the counties ? I doubt it. The English do not now-a-days play spin very well. Thanks to the one-day game ! That is why aging overseas test discards cause mayhem on the county circuit. Just remember that ! It would also be worth casting our mind back exactly 49 years. Jim Laker took 19 wickets in a test match. The other wicket was taken by Tony Lock. So two spinners can play together in England and have always done so. Only in the past 20 years or so, the one day game has meant that England have not produced quality spinners. Hence, their omission. The last great slow bowler was Underwood. He was faster than Kumble !
So I will back class, known strengths and potential achievers. So my team will be:
Omar
Iqbal
Aftab [ at No. 3 , 5th bowler, 3 seamer ]
Bashar [ not at No. 3 ]
Ashraful
Rahim
Mashud
Mashrafe
Rafique
Enamul
Shahadat
I have plumped for Shahadat instead of Taposh whose guts I admire greatly. However, he can be wayward. Shahadat, has that pace and , if the balls fall on the seam, anything can happen ! Real pace can discomfort any batsman.
I also do not see why Ashraful should not bowl particularly, if we are chasing leather. He should have bowled a great deal more at Hove.
Well, I have had my say. I fear the Selection committee will not play Enamul [ a real class spin bowler ] and will play Rajin becuase they always do. But I live in hope. Inshallah, I will be at Lords for the 4 days and, if the match goes into the 5th day and if we are in the game, I will be there. I am not , however, particularly partial to writing mindless dribble !
