So Ashraful's age cheating isn't too bad, only little over 1 year & 2 months

He is in the latter half of 20 I think. So 21 isn't all that unfair

Ashraful is one age cheater who actually looks way younger than what he claims to be.

We should watch our fingers while playing with keyboard! "Cheating" is a strong word!! There is nothig to do with Ashraful about age cheating. It might be his parents who is respobcible for it. Is it a big deal anyway? We should concentrate more on cricket, shouldn't we?

True "Cheating" is a strong work when we actually don't know for sure if his official age is the right one or not. And if it isn't, then we don't know who is actually responsible for that. However we do know in general term that, we have little confidence in the validity of those officical ages.

Also you are right that we should concentrate more on cricket. However I have seen both side spinning the age issue in both side. Some people try to make him a teen ager and some people try to make him close to mid 20s.

So ist better for both side to refrain from guessing his exact age. Isn't it enough to just agree that he is still a young man (with out mentioning his age 19,20, 21,22, 23, etc) and the future is still ahead of him?

When you start mentioning a particular age, then you are basically opening the door for all kind of speculation.

It's quite a big deal since he has a very important age-based record in Test Cricket.

And it also becomes a big deal, when you see Javed Omar, Shanto labeled as 28 years old and Taposh as only 22. Our current national team is surely a young side, but do you honestly think that their real average age is 22?

Actually, I know someone who is the same age as me (28), who says that Golla was his batchmate in college, so take that as you will.

I am 34 and JOB is probably around 28 as I first saw him play about 10-11 years ago. A lot of the rest are all blatantly over-aged. Many have been playing for 5+ years which would mean they were only in their mid-teens when they began playing top level cricket. Baisya only 22? Give me a break. Having said this, however, the BD team is still very young. Even if everyone's age is underestimated by 2 years on average it still means we have a very young team.

Guys,

This is Test Cricket. If you're good enough, you're old enough.

There's been 16 year olds play for Australia, and there's been 42 year olds. It doesnt matter.

his cricinfo DOB: Born September 9, 1984, Dhaka.

but according to his big bro's article in Bangladesher Khela he was born in 1983, Narayanganj. so, both both DOB and place of birth is different. but its only by a year or so. since it did not say when it 1983, the max difference is 21 months to 9 months.

yes, it becomes important because of the record, but guess what, he previous record was a pakistani guy who are probably even worse in age cheating. result, no big deal.

Is this thread opened for discussing Ashrafuls age? How many times we have to argue this age thing of our team? doesn't make sense anymore.

It's natural with bangladeshis in bangladesh to reduce their age because so many people study KG1 and KG2
and only few bright students used to go to Class 1 before going to any KG school for 2 years.

But when they sit for their SSC they need to fill out the registration form in Class 9 and that's when everyone can use their certificate age if they want to. Many people do it because they want to have 2 extra years in their career or 2 more years to apply for Govt. jobs because many find the Bangladesh Civil Service exam hard to pass.

Age cheating is not a new phenomena in BD but Ashraful's issue is different. There is no denying the fact that he is few years older than what is suggested but that being said, it's also obvious that he will not grow any taller after 2 years. So to come out with 100 off 100 balls against Australia in any match is a superb knock and 2 o 3 years of age has nothing to do with it. Bashar is a good player but even he couldn't hit any century against Zimbabwe let alone Australia.

I think Ashraful's 100 will remain the best match winning knock in Bangladesh's cricketing history because we were the lowest ranked team by a fair margin and we defeated the world champions.

After 10 years we will probably be ranked higher than Srilanka, Zimbabwe and NZ.

Ashraful looks very young, sort of 19-20ish. whatever his 'real' age is as you all seem to argue pointlessly, it is more important he can improve his performance and maintain consistency however long he plays.

some people are amazing. i have no reason to think that the majority of the current bunch are age cheaters. yes, ashraful did conceal his age when he first came into the international arena, and he confessed that too. however, it was only a matter of a couple of months, and he is still the youngest test centurion even after taking the concealment into account. seriously - does he look even a day above 16/17?

as for the others - do they really look old? does pilot look 33? does bashar look 37? do rajin, shahriar, masri look 25? i don't think so.

Looks are deceiving. Don't fall into that trap. If you really want to know the real age we need to do DNA testing. But do we really care? A 101 ball century is equally entertaining whether the batsman is 19 years old or 39 years old.

Therefore again to both sides, don't make age an issue. Just enjoy the game. Life will be simpler.
